C.W. "Dub" Traylor, age 75, longtime resident, civic and business leader of Terrell, passed away April 4, 2003 at Clyde Cosper Texas State Veterans Nursing Home in Bonham, Texas.

Dub Traylor was born April 16, 1927 in Rusk, Cherokee Co., Texas, the son of Walter Washington and Clara Batten Traylor.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Mary Ellen Mayfield; son, Richard Kent and wife Sandy Hopkins Traylor of Plano; Suzanne Traylor Chance of Terrell; grandsons, Cash and wife Elaine Traylor, Toby and wife Sheryl Traylor, and Cody Chance. And grandchildren: Brody, Grace, CJ, and Julia.

Surrounding his death were another son, Joe Walter Traylor and brothers and sister all in Texas.

Dub and Mary were married July 2, 1945 in Maydelle, Tx. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army of Occupation in Kassell, Germany. He and Mary, with two year old son, Rick, came to Terrell from Rusk in 1948 after lung surgery and recovery in McKinney Veterans Hospital.

Dub owned and operated a door to door credit clothing business for several years in Terrell and surrounding communities. He expanded into Traylor Furniture and Appliances for the remainder of his retail career. His semi-retirement became a real estate venture developing Country Corners Addition of Terrell.

Dub was ''Elder Emeritus'' of the First Christian Church prior to his illness. He co-chaired the building committee during the construction of the Charles E. Mull Family Center to its completion. He was also deacon at three churches during his life in Terrell.

He was known as ''Mr Kiwanis'' having been a member and past president since the service club was organized in 1953 with a 47 year perfect attendance before his health failed. His Kiwanis club bestowed upon him its highest honor by making him a George F. Hixson Fellow.

Dub was also past president of the Retail Merchants Association, director of Oak Grove Country Club, Terrell Booster Club, Terrell Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, and served on both the governing board and operating boards of Terrell Community Hospital and secretary / treasurer of the Terrell State Hospital Volunteer Council.

Dub was the proud recipient of the Terrell Rotary Club's Community Service Award to include Grand Marshall of that year's Christmas Parade in Terrell. And yes, he was an avid golfer.
