Cynthia Carr-Daniel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metropolitan Funeral Service - Berkley Chapel on Jan. 27, 2026.
Cynthia Carr-Daniel was born on May 24, 1951, to the late William and Ruth Cooke. She was raised in a loving family that shaped the woman of faith, dedication, and grace that she became. Cynthia was also predeceased by her brother, William Henry Cooke Jr.

Cynthia had a beautiful balance of interests that reflected her upbringing and spirit. She loved watching old Western movies just like her daddy, enjoyed shopping like her mother, and shared her parents' love for travel, finding joy in seeing new places and experiencing the world beyond her doorstep. Above all, she praised the Lord with the same devotion that they both instilled in her. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life.

A lifelong educator, Cynthia dedicated her professional career to serving the children of Hampton City Schools, from which she later retired. Teaching was not just her profession-it was her calling, and she poured her heart into shaping young minds and futures.

Cynthia was a faithful member of New Hope Church of God in Christ, where she attended and served diligently until her health no longer allowed her to do so. She served the church faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher, GED Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Usher, and choir member, sharing her gifts of knowledge, encouragement, and praise with all she encountered. She was also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she upheld the values of sisterhood, service, and scholarship.

Cynthia Carr-Daniel will be remembered for her faith, love for family, commitment to education, and gentle yet powerful spirit. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she shared.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Ruben Daniel; her son, Charles Carr Jr.; her daughters, Velina Winder (Keith, Sr.) and Kalishia Carr; her stepchildren, Ryan Daniel and Kelly Johnson; her beloved grandchildren, Jamar Winder, Jasmine Haliday (Antonio), Keith Winder Jr., Tyler Carr, Kyree Carr, Deon Gray Jr., Isaiah Gray, Kaitlynn Gray, Riley Church; her step-grandchildren, Khadin Dean and Jordan Johnson; great-grandchildren, Antonio Haliday Jr., Jiselle Winder, Azura Haliday, Averey Haliday, Aavah Haliday, Jamir Winder, Zamarion Winder; her sisters, Sheila Brooks (DeRayford) and Vanessa Johnson (Earl); and a host of extended family members, friends, former colleagues, and students whose lives she touched throughout the years.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
