Shirley Boyd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metropolitan Funeral Service - Berkley Chapel on Feb. 20, 2026.
Early February 8th, 2026, Shirley passed away at the age of 74 in her sleep. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric L. Boyd.

Shirley was born in Cuba and moved to Virginia in 1961. She attended Woodrow Wilson High School and graduated in 1970.

Shriley worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a typist and retired as a cafeteria service member for Western Branch Middle School in Chesapeake, Virginia.

While attending Tidewater Community College, she then met the love of her life, Eric Boyd. Shirley and Eric dated for nine months, and both knew they were each other's heart. They got married on September 17th, 1978. Shirley became head of the household while Eric worked at the post office. They were forever by each other's side. In the meantime, they were blessed with two bundles of "joy" lol named Erika and Jessica. Both girls brought so much love to Shirley. She enjoyed being a mother and wife. She attended every school function, show, sports function, and dance recital. She never missed milestones in her children's lives. Holidays were always a favorite in the Boyd household. She decorated the entire house during the fall (Halloween) and Christmas. If one of the girls' birthdays fell on a school day, Shirley would surprise them and excuse them for the rest of the day. She took her girls out on the town and made them feel special on their day. Every problem her family had, she solved it. Every heartbreak, she mended. She truly shielded her family from any problem the world tried to cause.

Shirley leaves her beloved memory to her two daughters, Erika and Jessica; four grandchildren, Braylon, Mariah, Jade, and Journee; two brothers, James A. Head (Norfolk) and Edward Head (San Diego); a sister, Cora B. Williams (Suffolk); a niece, Dwyania Williams, and a nephew, Marcus Williams.

February 8th will forever mark a special day because of the meaning behind it. Shirley's birthday is February 7th, and Eric's is Feb 8th. They celebrated their birthdays together, and it's believed that Eric came to Shirley saying what he always says when he wanted her to go somewhere with him, "Come on, Shirley, come go with me." She would never miss an opportunity to be with him.

The family would like to thank Metropolitan Funeral Service for their service and support, and family and friends for their prayers, calls, and kind words.
