Cynthia Marie Ashley, beloved daughter, sister, family member and friend, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the age of 67. Cindy was born on June 08, 1957, in Gonzales, Texas to Charles James Ashley and Marie DuBose Ashley.
Cindy was a sweet and loving person who dealt courageously with the many health issues that confronted her. She had intelligence and wisdom hampered only by low auditory memory, which caused her life to fail to understand or she would misunderstand the spoken word. She had a great love for people and was very interested in their activities and well-being. She had a strong faith in the Lord and believed that Jesus was with her during her struggles and would see her through and she was right.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her father, C.J. Ashley; her grandparents, Alec G and Mary Pauline Miller Ashley and John William (Bill) and Lela Mae Ryan DuBose; and her uncle, Frank DuBose. She is survived by her son, Joshua Sweigart, and granddaughter, Reagan Marie Sweigart of Arkansas, her mother Eleanor Marie DuBose Ashley, her siblings Cheryl Ashley Scullin and husband Patrick of Landrum, S.C., and Charles J. (Chuck) Ashley, Jr. of Austin. She is also survived by her nephew Ryan Patrick Scullin and niece, Laura Elizabeth Scullin, both of Seattle; Uncle Larry W. DuBose and wife Jane of Houston; cousins, Kimberly DuBose Newton of Missouri City; Joe DuBose of Austin; Brandon Merritt of Natick, MASS; J.D. Merritt of Katy, Tx and their families.
The family would like to express their gratitude and deep appreciation to Dr. Virginia Garay, Kiersten Oubre, Ellen Fontana, and the entire staff at Austin State Hospital for their dedication to and loving care of Cynthia, to which she responded with great love and affection.
Visitation will take place at Seydler – Hill Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 03, 2024, from 10:00am to 12:00 noon. Service will start at 12:00 noon, officiated by Rev. Cheryl Homsher, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Gonzales. Burial will follow at the Gonzales Masonic Cemetery.
