Cynthia Matson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home on Oct. 9, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Cynthia "Cindy" Matson, nee Mindrup, age 87, of Aurora, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, surrounded by love.
Born on June 15, 1938, in Jerseyville, Illinois, Cindy was the daughter of Dr. Robert and Elizabeth Mindrup. She graduated from Denison University in 1960 with a degree in Fine Arts and was a proud member of Pi Beta Phi and the Blue Key Honor Society.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Robert "Bobby" Mindrup; her beloved son George "Georgie" Lytle; her husbands Paul Lytle Jr., Dr. Louis Maggiore, and Robert Matson; and her step-granddaughter Melana Matson.
She is survived by her brother Bruce (Kathy) Mindrup of Jerseyville, IL; her children Paul (Kathleen) Lytle III of Fruitport, MI, and Sarah (Jason) Taylor of Aurora, OH; her stepchildren Mike Matson, Robin (Jeff) Perrotti, Beth Matson, and John Matson; her grandchildren Joey (Elle), Louie, Vinnie, Robbie, and Amelia; and her step-grandchildren Max and McKenna.
Cindy was a vibrant and devoted member of her community. Her faith and service were central to her life, reflected in her active participation in the Church of the Resurrection, the Branches and Walden prayer groups, and the Junior League of Cleveland. She held leadership roles including board member of Saint Luke's Hospital and president of Sunny Acres Metro Health.
Her civic and cultural contributions were extensive, including involvement with the Daughters of the American Revolution, Cats Den Garden Club, multiple book clubs, and historical societies such as Western Reserve, Chagrin Falls, James A. Garfield, Jersey County, and the Aurora Study Club.
Cindy was a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She operated Sign of the Dove Antiques for over four decades, traveled extensively (especially to England and Scotland) and was an avid reader and voracious short story writer. Her legendary holiday celebrations, eye for design, love of Siamese cats, and deep appreciation for history, art, and culture made her unforgettable to all who knew her.
She treasured her 50 years on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York and her winter seasons in Sarasota, Florida, where she found joy, peace, and inspiration.
A Catholic Mass will be held on Monday, October 20th at 11 AM at Church of the Resurrection in Solon, with a reception to follow. The family will receive guests at 10 AM in the church gathering area. A private burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Chagrin Falls. Arrangements by Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home of Chagrin Falls. www.stroudlawrence.com
Cindy's legacy of faith, family, love, and service will continue to shine through the lives she touched.
