Cynthia Surratt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stephenson-Shaw Funeral Home - Jackson on Nov. 18, 2025.
Ms. Cynthia Surratt was born on August 9, 1961, in Henderson, Tennessee, to the late Annie Bell (Virgie) and JR Morris. She was called to eternal rest on Monday, November 17, 2025, at her residence in Finger, Tennessee.

She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and remained a faithful and active member of Cypress Creek First Baptist Church in Selmer, Tennessee. She served as a youth director and worked in the church kitchen, touching many lives with her dedication and love.

A proud graduate of Chester County High School, Class of 1980, Cynthia continued her education at West Tennessee Business College, earning her cosmetology license. She later attended Jackson State Community College, where she received her Associate of Science degree. In 2003, she completed her Pharmacy Technician certification at Tennessee Technology Center in Jackson, Tennessee. Cynthia's professional journey led her to Jackson Madison County General Hospital, where she served with compassion and excellence until her retirement in 2025.

In 1984, Cynthia was united in Holy Matrimony to John Wayne Surratt, and together they were blessed with two beautiful daughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Bell (Virgie) and JR Morris; her beloved daughter, Johnna Shabree Chappell; and siblings Laydell Holman, Charles Holman, Marilyn Holman, Geraldine Holman, Nathan Lee Holman, and Gloria Bell.

She leaves in God's care to cherish her memory: her devoted daughter, Ashlee Surratt; grandchildren; MaAliyah Sharee Chappell, Zayden LeBron Crayton and Ashton Malik Crayton; sisters Dorothy (Don) Bradford of Chicago, IL; Priscilla Robinson and Denise Grimes of Jackson, TN; Oneatha (Duane) Perteet, Glenda (Warren) Alexander, Linda Holman, and Brenda Holman of Minneapolis, MN; brothers Delano (Sandra) Isanti and Ilyass Tariq (Musalawati); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Cynthia's life was a beautiful example of grace, strength, and unwavering faith. Though her earthly journey has ended, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her
