Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. - West ReadingCynthia J. Walters, 79, of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2025, in the care of St. Francis Home. She was the loving wife to Robert E. Walters for over 61 years.
Born in West Reading to the late Franklin A. and Vivian E. (Shelly) Shirk, Cindy graduated from Wilson High School in 1964.
Cindy was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had been a Girl Scout leader, a football-mom, and a leader of the Good News Club during her children's formative years. Whether it was the birthday cards she sent to every member of her extended family each year, or the special lunches and dinners she shared with her grandchildren to celebrate their milestones, Cindy knew how to make her family feel loved and appreciated. Her Christmas letters and cookies were famous and much sought after by family friends alike.
A previous member of Calvary Bible Fellowship and current member of Grace Bible Fellowship, Cindy taught Sunday school and led Bible studies and Vacation Bible school. She also gave selflessly by donating bone marrow to a stranger and compassionately volunteered as a pen pal to the incarcerated.
Her memory will be cherished by her beloved husband, Robert; their children: Allison Hayick, wife of Scott Hayick, of Wernersville; Valerie Bean, wife of Kirk Bean, of Reinholds; Robert Walters, husband of Cindy Walters, of Sinking Spring; and Matthew Walters, husband of Andrea Walters, of Schwenksville; her treasured grandchildren: Dylan, Jared, and Trey; Caleb, Cassandra, and Corey; Justin and Isabella; and Noah and Jillian; and her great-grandson, James. She is also survived by her brother, F. Alan Shirk, husband of Pamela Shirk, of Wyomissing.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Shirk, who is survived by his wife, Carole Shirk, of Lebanon.
Cindy's family wishes to express their gratitude for the tireless and compassionate care Cindy received from the staff, nurses, and physicians of the Reading Hospital, Phoebe Berks, and St. Francis Home.
Contributions in Cindy's memory may be offered to St. Francis Home, 144 Hillside Dr, Reading, PA 19607.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Bible Fellowship, 4891 Penn Ave, Sinking Spring, PA 19608.
