Born and raised in Sumter, S.C., Wayne was the son of the late Cyril Ray King and the late Bobbie Jean Wheeler King.
In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, hunting and fishing both leisurely and competitively. Some of his favorite fishing spots included Jake's Landing, Jack's Creek in Santee and Sparkleberry. His favorite hunting locations were in Williamsburg County and SpringHill. He even occasionally ventured to Arkansas for duck hunting trips.
After working many years at Sunbeam Bread Company Wayne branched out into his own wholesale business "King Distribution" in which he ran very successfully until he retired in 2022.
Survivors are his two sisters Wanda Puryear of Cayce, S.C. and Connie Hobbs (Eddie) of Sumter. Nieces and nephews: Brannon Edmonds (Matt), Carmen Pinner (Alan), Trey Hobbs (Katie), Kathryn Cook (Brody), Harrison Hobbs (Katie), and Anna Hobbs. Along with four great-nieces and four great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Todd Solberg officiating.
Interment of Ashes ceremony will be private.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to an organization of one's choice.
The family would like to extend their utmost appreciation for the care and compassion given to Wayne by Dr. Walsh Thomas of S.C. ENT, Dr. Cecilia Ralyea of Prisma Health Hospice & Palliative Care in addition to the teams at S.C. Oncology, MUSC Health, AMG Specialty Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, Prisma Health Richland Hospital, Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Amedisys Home Health, Prisma Health Palliative Care and Prisma Health Hospice, especially Dr. Brooke Perugini.
Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
