Cyril Malcolm Wright

In honor and remembrance of Cyril instead of wearing traditional black, we would like to suggest that everyone wear bright colors to celebrate his life.
Cyril Malcolm Wright, aged 89, passed away peacefully on April 26th, 2024 in Pembroke Pines, Florida. He was born in Mocho, St James, Jamaica on July 8th, 1934 to Josiah and Louise (formerly Jones) Wright.
Cyril grew up in Hanover where he was raised by his godmother, Edith Frater and her husband, Robert. He attended Knockalva Agricultural School and from there went to work as a supervisor/bookkeeper on several agricultural properties. He was trained to be a formal dairy farmer in the mid 1960s through a formal arrangement with the Jamaican government and the US government after which he obtained a dairy farm where he produced milk in bulk for the Jamaica Dairy industry. He enjoyed racing horses and shooting birds as a child and would continue this love by watching horse races whether in Jamaica or here in the US. In adulthood, he became an avid bird hunter and would go out regularly during the Jamaica bird hunting season, where he would introduce other family members to the sport and bring back lots of game birds for dinner!
In the late 1980's, Cyril left the dairy farming industry and Jamaica when he migrated to Albany, New York, where he worked at the Albany County Airport in airport operations and security. He continued working in this industry at the Atlanta International Airport until his retirement, after which he would travel back and forth to Jamaica, his beloved homeland. Cyril was a service-oriented, honest man and a caring father, grandfather and uncle, ever giving to the members of his family, and his US and Jamaican communities, the latter who came to rely on him heavily to assist them in any way that he could.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ulin, his daughters Norma and Celia, special nieces Cynthia ("Anne) and Michelle, granddaughters Natalie, Leanne and Lauren, son in law Richard, grandsons, Leon and Louis, and great granddaughter Isabella, eight (8) sisters and three (3) brothers and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnephews and grandnieces.
A memorial service will be held for Cyril on May 24th, 2024 at the Salvation Army Corps at 100 SW 9th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, FL at 3:00 p.m.
