Funeral services for D. W. "Pid" Luce, 88, will be held at 2:00 PM, Tues., Oct. 7, 2025 at the Melrose Baptist Church in Melrose, NM with Rev. Joe Bunce officiating. Burial will follow in the Melrose Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Luce will begin on Friday, Oct. 3rd.

Dolphas Waymon Luce, known only as "Pid," was born May 15, 1937 in Sundown, TX to the home f Edith (Gresham) and Leonard Luce, and passed from this life on the morning of Sept. 30, 2025 in Clovis, NM. Pid graduated from Floyd High School in 1955. On Oct. 26, 1954, he was married to June Morgan. In 1976, he and his family moved to Melrose to the Bar Double L Ranch where he buildt a lifelong career as a successful cattleman and rancher, known throughout New Mexico and Texas.

Pid was a longtime member of the Melrose Baptist Church. One of his greatest joys in life was in helping young people in their 4-H and FFA projects. He began with his grandchildren, but through the years, countless others young people benefited from his help and expertise.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, June Luce; his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Dona Luce of Fort Sumner; his daughter and son-in-law, De"Aun and Butch Willoughby of Field, NM; six grandchildren, De'Ann Kiehne, De'Lane and Sam Fech, De'Lisa and Michael Hodges, Dusty Luce, Shay and Tyler Denning and Ryan and Crystal Willoughby; as well as by eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Edith Luce; three brothers, two who died as children and Dwayne Luce and a grandson, Darrel Luce.
