The Rosary for Rosa Marie Carter, 82, of Portales, will be recited at 10:30 AM, Mon., Feb. 2, 2026 at St. Helen Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Fr. Francisco Carbajal officiating.

Rosa Maria Carter was born June 13th, 1943 in Encino, NM , to the home of Juan Frederico Montano and Rosa (Garcia) and passed from this life on the early morning of January 29th, 2026

Rose's passion was caring for others who needed help caring for themselves. She worked at RGH nursing home for thirteen years, and dearly loved her work, and was well known in our community. She will be greatly missed.

Rose was very family oriented, she loved her grandkids, and great grandkids dearly. She also loved her nieces and nephews as her own.

On November 3rd, 1959, she married the love of her life, Ralph Carter. She took excellent care of her mother and her husband both until their passing. She was very good at what she did.

She loved the outdoors, camping and fishing, and sometimes hunting. She liked dancing and being around friends, and just having fun.

Rose is survived by her daughter Donna Carter of Portales, and her grandsons Dustin Carter of Portales, Jason Tapia of Levelland, and Darren Hahn of Cartersville, GA. Five great grandkids Heaven Olivas of Ruidoso, Makayla Carter of Lubbock, Austyn Carter, and Carter Garcia of Portales and Lilah Tapia of Levelland; a brother Rudy Montano of Portales,and his wife Judy, a sister Lucia Casino of Lubbock.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband Ralph and infant son Shannon. Five brothers Isaac, Elfigo, Philandro, Jerry and Seferino, and two sisters Patricia "Pat" Jaquez, and Adelina Baca
