Patricia Ann Schear-Carpenter

Patricia Ann Schear-Carpenter entered into the presence of Jesus on December 15, 2025. Pat was born December 27, 1944, in Portales, New Mexico to Chester and Thelma Sullins.

She lived in Roswell, New Mexico most of her life and graduated with honors from Roswell High School in May, 1962. On June 15, 1962, she married Tony Perkins with whom she had three children. On November 25, 1972, she married Ken Schear. Ken preceded her in death on March 15, 2009. For many years, Pat enjoyed working alongside Ken on the ranches he managed. They also owned and operated Schear Pump and Windmill in Capitan, New Mexico. Once her children were adults, Pat earned an Associate of Arts degree from ENMU-Roswell and worked as a medical transcriptionist for ENMMC. In 2007, Pat and Ken returned to Roswell from Capitan, and Pat learned to tap and line dance and became a line dance instructor. As a member of the Rac-a-Taps and the Dancing Rascals, Pat performed countless times at area nursing homes and events. She also won many gold medals competing with her dancing friends in the Senior Olympics. In 2013, she received the Courage Award from New Mexico Senior Olympics because of the many times she overcame significant health challenges. On March 22, 2016, David Carpenter and Pat were married and moved to the LA Ranch in Roswell where David survives her.

Besides most types of dancing, Pat also enjoyed bowling, traveling (especially on cruise ships), playing board and card games (especially poker), playing slot machines at The Inn of the Mountain Gods and other casinos, attending ranch rodeos, and watching PBR competitions. Pat's favorite times were spent with family watching children and grandchildren compete in sporting and school events, attending birthday parties, graduation ceremonies, weddings, and celebrating various holidays. Pat always supported and encouraged her family members to do their best and was the first to proudly share their accomplishments.

Pat's recent memberships included Grace Community Church, Roswell Community Bible Study, Mensa, Phi Theta Kappa, Beta Sigma Phi, and Corriente Cowbelles.

In addition to her husband, Pat is survived by her children: Lisa (Mark) Martin of Capitan, New Mexico, Dean (Liz) Schear of Bulverde, Texas, and David (Veronica) Schear of Dumas, Texas; grandchildren: Dustin Martin (Adelina Garcia), Brandon Martin (Damaris Martinez), Brittany Schear (Donny Russell), Makenzie Martin (Nathan Sims), Kayla Mitchell (Jalan), Ashlyn Martin, Jacob Martin, Adriana Moore (Myles), Caleb Martin, and Aaron Santana; great-grandchildren Jordon, Jaydon, Jayce, Ariana, Jaylen, Jeremiah, Kaylani, Jade, Benaiah, Kyrie, Karma, Kira, Lyght, and Micah (arriving February 2026); brother Roger (Tamara) Sullins, nieces Lori (Xavier) Jurado and daughters and Lia (Rone) Luczynski; stepchildren Ross (Tammy) Carpenter and D'Aun (Mike) Pierce and their families; and many cousins and their families.

A celebration of Pat's life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Lagrone's Funeral Chapel in Roswell.
