Donald Frederick "Fred" Madvig, 91, of Galesburg, Illinois, died Monday, January 6, 2025 at Knox County Nursing Home at 9:30 p.m.
Fred was born April 5, 1933 in Galesburg, the son of Donald F. and Lillian M. (Summers) Madvig. After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1951 he married Alice Leon Bellamy on November 30, 1951 at the Central Congregational Church in Galesburg. Fred is survived by his wife of 73 years, Alice; one daughter, Robin (Brad) Collier of Galesburg; two sons, Charles "Chuck" (Peggy) Madvig of Phoenix, Arizona and Donald (Carolyn) Madvig of Bloomington, Indiana; one brother, Wayne Madvig of Galesburg; five grandchildren, 2 step granddaughters, 10 great grandchildren, one step grandson, and 4 great great grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Leland.
Fred worked for 42 years as a quality control specialist at Butler Manufacturing. He enjoyed working with his hands from woodworking, working in the yard, and tinkering around the house, finding a way to repair anything that needed fixed. Fred spent many years boating on the Mississippi River.
Cremation will be accorded. Private family burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
