Donald Lee Proctor
September 26, 1939 – November 21, 2025
Donald "Lee" Proctor was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Ellerbroek Frazer Proctor (2014); his parents, Donald Clifford Proctor (1994) and Beryl Lee (Kight) Proctor (2000) of
Tillamook, Oregon; and his grandson, Austin Proctor (2024).
He is survived by his brother, Rev. Dr. Frank Proctor, and wife, Dr. Enola K. Proctor, as well as their children, Anne and Bradley Proctor. Lee is also survived by his son, Daniel Lee Proctor (Suezy), of Madison, Alabama; his daughter, Alice Fern Proctor Christenson (Bob), of
Richland, Washington; and his grandchildren: Robert Christenson III, Conrad Christenson (Katie), Daniel Jr. (Kayla), and Kierra Proctor.
Lee grew up in
Tillamook, Oregon, and in 1956 moved with his parents to Estacada, Oregon, where he graduated from high school in 1957. He attended Oregon State College in Corvallis before taking time away to pursue his interests in architecture, construction, and business.
In 1960, Lee married Nancy Alice Whisler of Estacada. He later returned to Oregon State University and completed his bachelor's degree in business construction in 1964, the same weekend his brother graduated from Northwest Christian College in Eugene.
After graduation, Lee and Nancy (d. 2017) moved to
Dallas, Oregon, where he became controller and treasurer of Polk County Savings and Loan. During his tenure, the bank expanded to 12 branches, many established through his expertise in writing organizational and licensing proposals. During these years, he also became the father of two children, Dan and Alice.
Lee was active in the Dallas Jaycees and was honored as "Jaycee of the Year" by his local chapter. After his divorce from Nancy, he married Sharon Ellerbroek Frazer of Tillamook-his high school sweetheart from years earlier.
He served the Dallas Fire Department with distinction, rising to the rank of battalion chief and earning admiration for his leadership and work training new recruits.
After the Savings and Loan crisis of the 1980s, Polk County Savings and Loan was absorbed by a larger financial institution, and Lee spent a period unemployed before working at Ace Hardware in Dallas.
With his marriage to Sharon in 1975, Lee became the stepfather to four children: Bret (Barb), Greg (Fredee), Bryan, and Kelly (d. 2002; husband, Dan Sage). Sharon's children had 8 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. After Kelly's long battle with Cystic Fibrosis, Lee and Sharon lovingly became guardians to her children, Jordan and Kiley Frazer Sage.
In later years, Lee worked for the State of Oregon as manager of state licensing for financial lending institutions, continuing well past typical retirement age-until 79-to ensure health insurance for his grandchildren Jordan and Kiley.
He was an active member of Dallas Trinity Lutheran Church, where he helped establish and maintain the congregation's audio-visual system to support weekly worship.
After retirement, Lee moved to
Richland, Washington, to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Bob Christenson. He deeply cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
D. Lee Proctor passed away from squamous cell lung carcinoma. His final days were brief and marked by little pain or struggle. He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his work ethic, and his steady ability to support and care for those around him.
His Celebration of Life will be June 27, 2026, in
Dallas, Oregon, at Bollman's Tribute Center, where he will be laid to rest next to Sharon.
