D. Michael Ward, age 78, of Athens, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Mike will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and the unwavering love he carried for those closest to him.

For 53 years, Mike shared a deep and enduring partnership with his loving wife, Donna Ward. Their life together was filled with laughter, joy, and a steadfast commitment to family. Donna was his constant companion, and their bond was one of the great blessings of his life.

Born with a gentle spirit and a generous heart, Mike lived a life grounded in integrity, humility, and a deep appreciation for the people around him. He found joy in simple moments—sharing stories, offering guidance, and celebrating the accomplishments of those he loved. His presence brought comfort, and his steady support was a source of strength for many.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Donna Ward, children, Brian Ward (Tiffany), Jessica DiPietro (Rich), and Kim Marsden (Jared); and by his cherished grandchildren, Logan, Samantha, Michael, Brayden, Declan, Molly, and Jonathan, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

He is also survived by his sisters, Connie Ward and Gail Kohler (Wayne), sister in law Peggy Ward, and brother in law Bob Gatliff, as well as several nieces and nephews who will remember him with affection and gratitude.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Shirley Ward, sister, Suzanne Gatliff, and brother, Donnie Ward, whom he loved deeply and whose memories remained close to him throughout his life.

The family takes comfort in knowing Mike is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who passed before him. His memory will live on in the values he instilled, the love he gave freely, and the many lives he touched.

The family will continue to honor Mike’s legacy by carrying forward the warmth, compassion, and devotion that defined his life.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, West, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Saturday, March 14, 2026, starting at 12:00 PM.
