Dagmar Joan Auerbach (Katzmann), age 84, of Ogden, Utah, passed away on November 2, 2025. Joan was born on June 17, 1941, to Edith and Gerard Katzmann in Ravensburg, Germany.
She immigrated with her then husband, Ferdinand Buttschardt, to the state of New York, U.S.A. They went on to have two children, Kristin (Zorn) and Peter Buttschardt, and raised them primarily in Pennsylvania. During that time Joan remarried Roger Auerbach.
Once they finished raising Kristin and Peter they moved to Stuart, Florida, Joan embarked on a real estate career, where she eventually achieved broker status and became a multi-million dollar producer. Her pastimes were surf-fishing, tennis, swimming, sewing, knitting and crocheting. In addition to learning the English language, Joan could also speak Spanish, French, and Italian, along with her native German. Almost every year Joan flew back to Germany to visit her family there, and together they went on trips to explore other parts of Europe.
Along with her children and grandchildren, Joan is survived by her sisters Barbara (Graupner), Ulrike (Schroeder), and Ursula (Ittner). Joan came to love the beauty of Utah where she lived her final years after retirement. At this point, her grandchildren were her passion. Joan's grandchildren Austin, Juliette, Jackson, Philip, Jessica and Lucas liked to spend time with her and play card games. Seeing them grow into wonderful human beings gave her great joy.
Joan will be remembered as being self-established, a wonderful cook, sharp, witty, caring, and resilient.
