Dakota Lee Landers, fondly known as Cody to his friends and family, was a beacon of light whose laughter and intelligence touched the lives of those around him.
Born on April 12, 1989, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Cody embraced the world with a zest that was as boundless as the skies he loved
to climb into. On June 23, 2024, in Morgantown, West Virginia, Cody's vibrant journey came to an unexpected end due to cardiac arrest, but his indomitable spirit lives on in the hearts of all who cherished him.
Cody was a man of boundless enthusiasm, known for his wit and wisdom, which were as natural to him as breathing. His innate curiosity led him to a lifelong passion for the study and collection of rocks and minerals, each specimen a story, each crystal a testament to the wonders of the earth. He tackled every challenge with a thoughtful approach, solving problems with the grace of a master and the humility of a student.
Professionally, Cody built his legacy in the branches above us, working as an arborist where he earned the nickname "Squirrel" for his unparalleled ability to climb effortlessly into the canopy. His work wasn't just a job; it was a symphony of movement, a dance with nature, as he trimmed and removed trees with the precision of a craftsman and the soul of an artist. His colleagues not only respected him for his skill but adored him for his camaraderie and ever-present humor.
Cody was a beloved father, son, brother, and friend. His mother, Adella Binder, and stepfather, Bob Binder, provided him with unwavering love and support. Cody's bond with his siblings was unbreakable; his brother, Colt Landers, his sister, Nikea Trevino, and his brother and sister-in-law, Gregory and Amber Landers, shared countless memories filled with laughter and mutual admiration. His light shone brightly on his close friends and family, including his cousin Patrick Maxwell and his aunt, Tonia Maxwell, who stayed by his side during his final days and hours.
Cody deeply cherished his four children: Rowan, Jude, Silas, and Scarlett, whose mother, Ciera Labno, remained an important part of his life. Cody's approach to life was a lesson in how to live fully and love freely. He showed us that to be funny is to bring joy, to be thoughtful is to show care, and to be intelligent is to seek understanding. Every life he touched was made better for his having been a part of it. His legacy is not just in what he did, but how he did it-with a heart wide open and a spirit unbridled.
As we reflect on Cody's life, let us not dwell on the loss but celebrate the journey. He taught us to climb our own trees, to reach for the heights with confidence, and never to fear the fall. He encouraged us to study the world with the curiosity of a child and the focus of a scholar. Cody lived as we all should, with the courage to laugh in the face of adversity, the strength to be compassionate, and the wisdom to cherish every moment.
Cody's story may have reached its final chapter, but the narrative of his life will continue to inspire and guide us. The rocks and minerals he so loved are the testament of time, each one a reminder that beauty and strength withstand. In the rustling leaves, in the sunlight filtering through the branches, we will hear Cody's laughter, see his smile, and feel his presence. To live on in the hearts we leave behind is not to die, and our beloved Cody, you have left an indelible mark on our hearts. Your life was a gift to us all, and
we are forever grateful. May your journey onward be as joyful and as adventurous as the life you lived among us. Rest in peace, dear Cody, until we meet again, high up in the branches of eternity.
A celebration of Cody's life will be held at a later date.

Him coming to my house the first time I met him with a mutual friend and he went out of his way to make repairs on my house without charging me a dime. He was a great guy. So thoughtful and he lived to explain how he did things with diagrams and everything. I loved that about him. I´m going to miss him very much.

One thing I'll always remember about my Uncle Cody is that he would always say " your funny lookin" even if we were having the most serious conversation he would say it, and it would make me laugh so hard. I didn't realize until recently I say it to. One of my friends said "Jade guess what!" I said " What your funny lookin I already knew that." Then she asked where did that come from and I told her my funny lookin Uncle Cody always would say it to me. I'll always remember how funny lookin he is. I'll see you again Uncle Cody, I miss you so much, I love you to the moon and back 1000 times!!!
