Dale Marks Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Westover Chapel on Jan. 2, 2022.
Dale Ray Marks, 68, passed away on December 30, 2021, at his home with his wife and family at his side.
Dale was born on June 13, 1953, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Delores Marks, and his sister, Debra Marks.
Dale is survived by his wife, Julie of the home; his sons, Jeffrey Marks and wife Cindy of Van Buren, Arkansas, Joe Marks of Des Moines and Jammie Marks and wife Sherri Of Altoona; his brothers, Dennis Marks and wife Tanya of Indianola and Daryl Marks and wife, Pat of Waterloo and his grandchildren, Ashlynn, Kennedy and Tucker Marks of Des Moines, Kaitlynn Marks of Iowa, and Cameron Keller of Van Buren, Arkansas.
He was a retired Safety Coordinator at ADM in Des Moines, Iowa. His career started there on July 29, 1974. One year into his career, he was promoted to a supervisor. The plant manager at the time told him "if you manage this plant's money like you do your own money, you will be fine". In the 2000's he was promoted to the job in which he retired from. After 45 years on the job, Dale Marks saw many changes. But the one thing that never changed was his work ethic, which was developed in his youth growing up on a farm. And while we have lost the daily presence of him at his job and everyday life, we will never lose the legacy and impact he had on everyone's life whether that be his family's life, people at church, or his co-workers.
He was a member of New Hope Assembly of God and a devout follower of Jesus Christ. Dale contributed to the Blessing Garden, taught a children's Sunday school class, worked in the nursery, served in many Alive Conferences, participated in men's bible studies, and volunteered in numerous church events.
Dale and Julie hosted a food drive in their neighborhood for the Food Bank of Iowa. Last year they brought in 1,500 pounds of food and more than $7,500 for the organization. With the nationwide attention this year, they raised more than $26,000. He also supported Girls on the Run by donating pizza and cookies for all the participants from Altoona Elementary School, which his granddaughters attended.
Dale enjoyed living life to its fullest. He played for ADM in the Des Moines area softball league, served in the East High breakfast program partnership with ADM and the police department, enjoyed weightlifting, volleyball, bicycling, and traveling with his loving wife, Julie, where he found his love for shelling on the beach. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all their activities and just spending time with family.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 5pm-8pm at Iles Westover Chapel, Des Moines. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 10:30 am at New Hope Assembly of God, Urbandale, with interment following at Scotch Ridge Cemetery, rural Carlisle, Iowa.
