Dale Echole Smith, a revered educator, devoted family man, and veteran, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, in Nuevo, California, at the age of 94.
Born on January 9, 1932, in Rexberg, Idaho, to the late Kenneth and Leona Smith, Dale's life was a testament to his enduring intelligence, generosity, and creativity.
Dale's academic journey led him to earn a master's degree, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in education. His passion for teaching and sociology culminated in a fulfilling tenure of over 40 years at the College of the Canyon, where he not only taught but also served as the head of the Sociology department until his retirement. His influence extended beyond the classroom, as he self-published works that reflected his keen intellect and dedication to his field.
Before shaping minds in academia, Dale served his country with distinction in the US Air Force from 1953 to 1956. During his active duty, he taught an Electronics class, showcasing his natural aptitude for both technology and instruction.
Dale's commitment to his faith was evident as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His spirituality was a guiding light in his life, inspiring him to live with purpose and to uplift others.
He married the love of his life, Jeroldean "Jeri" Randall, and together they nurtured a family that included their daughter, Teresa Gugliemi, and their sons, the late Randall Smith and the late Garrett Smith. Dale's legacy continues through his seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the values he cherished.
