Damon Fredric Cogar, 68, of Crownsville, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 11, 2025. Born in Baltimore on November 14, 1956, Damon was the son of the late Carroll Thomas Cogar and Lois Jacqueline (Bagshaw) Maxwell. Graduating from Glen Burnie High School in 1974 as a Gopher, he enjoyed the sport of track and field, and was a member of the yearbook club. Damon often spoke proudly of his first job as an attendant at the Shell Gas Station on Ritchie Highway at Marley Station in 1974. He began his career with Anne Arundel County Government in September 1975 as a storekeeper/trades helper in the parts warehouse of the Central Services Millersville Garage. He was promoted to Erosion Control Inspector in October 1984, Erosion Control Supervisor in 1987 and finished his career in November 1999 as Chief of Environmental Programs with the Department of Inspections & Permits. He then started his own business as a land development consultant, a job he enjoyed working until his passing.
Damon enjoyed hobbies like hunting, reading books by James Mitchner, hot rod cars, but most of all, spending time with his kids. He was quite the story-teller and enjoyed listening to Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story". Damon was a simple man and valued family over material things. His most enjoyable and memorable times were spent on the field coaching little league baseball in Cape St. Claire. He enjoyed driving, even without a destination. You could find him shining up his ride at the quarter car wash and was particular about taking care of his vehicle and keeping it as original as possible. He was a very emotional man of faith.
Damon is survived by his five children, Sundee Price (Christopher), Bradley Cogar (Ashley), Kyle Cogar (Ashley), Seth Cogar, and Kaelee Cogar. He is lovingly survived by his grandchildren, Wesley Price, Henry Price, Robert Price, and Geneva Cogar. He was preceded in death by his brother, Randall "Randy" Phillip Cogar, the hero he always looked up to. He is survived by his sisters Genanne Knight (Joseph), Cindy Keegan (Chris), Brenda O'Donnell, and Sue Cox, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor, the friendships he made, his love for our country and respect for the US military, and most of all, his caring nature and heartfelt emotions for all of his children. He was a proud father.
The family will be planning a celebration of life in the upcoming months.
