Dan Richard Beardsley passed from this life on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Dan was born in New Virginia, Iowa on May 18, 1934 to William S Beardsley and Charlotte Ellen Manning Beardsley. He attended the New Virginia School until his father was elected Governor of Iowa. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, he attended Iowa State College and Oregon State before graduating from Montana State in Bozeman.
While in college, Dan married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann Freeman. Their lives have been blessed with four daughters, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Dan's career with the Food and Drug Administration led him and his family to Seattle until he accepted a position in the Washington DC metropolitan area where he and Patricia lived for more than fifty years. After retiring from the FDA, Dan worked as a tour guide around the historic landmarks of DC and Virginia. Eventually he worked for H&R Block as a tax preparer which allowed him time to travel during the summer.
With Patricia he enjoyed trips to Europe, often finding opportunities to further their genealogical research and visit the places that their ancestors had called home. They were pleased to meet distant relatives in England who became very dear to them. Dan and Patricia were particularly eager to travel to Alaska - driving cross country from Virginia four times. Another favorite destination was the Outer Banks in North Carolina where they were able to enjoy beach time with their children and grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Patricia, his children: Carolyn Lundin (Rob), Sharon Adams, Elaine Beardsley Morin, Karla Siegel (Bob), as well as grandchildren: Benjamin, Hannah, Pamela, David, Karen, Keith, Christopher, Laura, and Melanie.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Charlotte and Bill; siblings: Billy Beardsley, Blaine Beardsley (Lois), Charlotte Stickel (Doyle), Mary Scheig (Henry); and granddaughter, Julia Morin.
Services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa, Wednesday July 24, 2024 at 11:00 am with Pastor Paul Burrow officiating.
