Mitchell grew up near Woodburn, Iowa. He attended country school in rural Clarke county and Murray Community School. He married Karen Kay Guthrie and they moved to Story City. Mitchell worked as a lineman for Story City Municipal for 30 years, he also farmed for Larry Egemo. Karen and Mitchell moved to Lorimor in 2006, Karen preceded him in death in 2007. Mitchell married Beatrice "Bea" Iiams in 2013 and they moved to Murray, Bea preceded Mitchell in death earlier this year, in January. Mitchell farmed and enjoyed outdoors, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a big Hawkeye fan and enjoyed going to the casino, having family together was his greatest joy.
Those relatives who preceded Mitchell in death were his first wife Karen, second wife Bea, parents, Berry and Flora, daughter, Cindy McCarl, son, Doyle McCarl, sisters, Dorothy "Dot", Norma "Jean", and Elizabeth "Lizzie", and brothers, Donald "Bud", and Perry and great granddaughter, Kellan Starret.
Mitchell leaves to cherish his memory; daughter, Crystal (Jeff) Nelson of Goldfield, IA, daughter, Autumn (Matt) Parmer of Truro, IA, daughter, Kelly (Mark) Moberly of Webster City, IA, son, Mitchell (Donna ) McCarl of Ankeny, IA, 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Julie McCarl, sister, Ginnie Hargis (Ron McBroom) of Winterset, sister, Pat (Jim) Cook of Murray, IA, sister, Georgia (Jan) Garwick of Vancouver, WA, and sister, Sue (Mark) Hamilton of Murray, IA, as well as other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Thursday August 28, 2025 at 11:30 am with Pastor Scott Davis officiating.
Mitchell's family will greet friends prior to the services from 10:30 until 11:30 at the funeral home.
A live stream of the service will be available at www.kalefuneralhome.com on Mitchell's tribute wall beginning at 11:30 am, Thursday.
Interment will be in the Murray Cemetery
