Dan Ray Green

Dan Ray Green, age 77, passed away in his home on Saturday, March 30, 2024. He was born to Winnie and David Green November 25, 1946, in Black Mountain, NC, and was the youngest of five children. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, Guy Green, and sisters, Elizabeth Hanley, and Helen Simpson.
Upon graduating from Charles D. Owen High School, class of 1965, Dan shipped to Paris Island to become a proud member of the US Marine Corps. After serving two tours as a radio telegraph operator during the Vietnam War and reaching the rank of Sergeant, he was honorably discharged April 1969 having earned a Purple Heart among other honors. Dan worked for Southern Railway until retiring.
Dan loved riding his Harley, hunting, fishing, and watching horse races. In the last 13 years of his life, Dan particularly enjoyed serving with his brothers in Christ at Lake Hills Baptist Church assisting with maintenance on the church grounds or at homes in the community, as well as being a part of the Encounter parking crew welcoming everyone on Sunday mornings. Nothing made him happier than joining hands with fellow believers to make sure those in poverty had a good Christmas and plenty to eat. On lazy days at home, he enjoyed many hours sitting in peace on his front porch watching birds dance over his wife's beautiful flower gardens. You could always count on Dan to have an interesting story or to make you laugh with his colloquial mountain humor. He will be greatly missed.
Dan is survived by his precious wife, Linda Brock Green, of 30 years who took care of him selflessly allowing him to pass in their home, well cared for and with loved ones by his side. He is also survived by his older brother, Ned Greene, his children Tina (Michael) Whitaker of Columbia, SC, Tracy (Chris) Korte of Colorado Springs, CO, Todd (Heather) Greene of Georgetown, KY, Tammy Greene of Asheville, NC, his stepson Mike Johnson of Candler, NC, and 13 grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, and countless dear friends.
The family will be holding a private memorial service at a later date.
