Dan Otto Marth, 81, of rural Rockford, Iowa, died peacefully at home in the early morning of January 17, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Danny "Dan" Otto Marth was born at the Charles City Hospital in 1943 to Elsie (Daake) and Otto Marth. He married the love of his life, Selma Winfield, in 1969 and raised five (5) children on their century farm. Dan worked with his brothers, Gary and John, to farm the land and raise livestock. Work often included all family members, ranging from butchering animals to putting up buildings.
Dan loved the Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes and playing epic basketball and volleyball games with his family.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie (Daake) and Otto Marth; his brother, David Marth; sister, Carol Perkins; son-in-law, Joseph Thorne; and parents-in-law, Jerry and Barney Winfield. He is survived by his wife, Selma Marth (Winfield); his children: Darcie Marth-Hochstetler (Kevin), Derek Marth (Nikole), Jodie Marth-Hollatz (Brad), Jennifer Marth-Thorne and Michael Marth. He is survived by eight (8) grandchildren: Julius, Kayla, Abram, Paige, Ephraim, Izzie, Anayla, Michael; and four (4) great-grandchildren.
A private service is being held with family. His ashes will be spread at the farm. A summer celebration of life will be held later this year.
