Dan Howard Smith, 79, of Moody passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2026 at a Temple nursing home after a lengthy illness.

A graveside service with Military honors will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Naler Cemetery in Moody, Texas.

Dan was born on January 1, 1947 in Temple, Texas to the late William N. and Ruby (Naler) Smith. He was raised in Moody and was a graduate of Moody High School. Mr. Smith enlisted in the US Army in 1966 and during his active duty commitment he completed an 8 week deployment to Vietnam. Dan was honorably discharged from the Army and would go on to work for Wilsonart as well as owning and operating his own tire shop in Moody. Mr. Smith was a member of the Methodist Church in Moody.

Mr. Smith was a very private person who loved his family very much. He was blessed with and is survived by a twin sister Jan (Smith) Hubbard of Moody and sister Johnnie (Smith) Farmer of McGregor, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as brothers Earl Ray Smith and Jerry Smith.
