Dane Smith Obituary
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 11, 2025 at Providence Baptist Church, 1947 Old Friendship Rd, Rock Hill, SC with Reverend Jim Neal officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Dane was the son of the late Jerry Howard Smith and the late Judith Hammond Smith. Dane was a Civil War buff and enjoyed studying the history. He was a proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and was part of Gaston Camp #86. Dane loved all animals, but especially his two dogs. You would often find him taking the dogs for a ride on his Kawasaki mule. Dane worked at Southern Mechanical Systems and valued the friendships he established there. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and continued to serve others following his passing by becoming an organ donor. Dane was a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend.
Surviving are his spouse, Debbie Saunders Smith; his brother, Keith Smith (Tammy); his mother-in-law, Carol Saunders, his sister-in-law, Danna Whitman (Greg); his brother-in-law, Chuck Saunders; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dane's name to the local animal shelter of your choice.

Gone too soon. "But it not up to us to ask Jesus why. We´ll know in the sweet by and by." that is a line from a song by Chris Stapleton that is so true. We have so many good memories of Dane and I don´t know where to start. The best one is that Dane was Randy and my practice baby. Randy would go get Dane as soon as she got off the school bus. We would babysit Dane as much as we could. He was a good baby. We would put him in his stroller, and I would push him back and forth while we spooned on the love seat in Howard´s and Babe´s den. I couldn´t tell you how many times we would go to see Dane and he would tell me of his new hobby. Most of the time it would be the same as what I was doing. He had an inquisitive mind and searched for knowledge about everything. He made up his mind in the first grade that he was going to drop out of school when he reached sixteen and did. But that didn´t stop him from learning. He was a talented man that had a world of skills and knowledge. I remember the first time I met Debbie at Jerry´s house. I told Dane that he better marry her before someone else grabbed her up. Thankfully, he took my advice, and they made a perfect couple. Thanks Lord. Dane may be gone from this earth, but he lives on in mine and Randy´s heart. We miss you so much Dane.
