Dan was one of the kindest "gentlemen" who worked at NOAA. I was very sorry to hear of his passing. When we occasionally met at the grocery store Dan, always in jacket and tie, was always gracious. NOAA will never see the likes of him again.

My condolences to Dan's family.
In California, we worked with Dan and his NOAA proteges on important initiatives in the areas of air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and the interface between air quality and climate change. He was a personal hero of mine, as I´ve been particularly impressed with his effective leadership, ability to communicate complex scientific issues to diverse audiences (including policymakers), and his broad focus and achievements on the science, impacts, and solutions for air pollution, climate change, and stratospheric ozone depletion.
May he rest in peace.

Sincerest sympathy to Dan's family. Dr. Albritton was an exceptional person in both his brilliant scientific work and profound ability to manage and connect with people. In recognition of his effective scientific communication skills, NOAA's Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (OAR) created the Dr. Daniel L. Albritton Outstanding Science Communicator Award that honors other scientists who use their talking talents for the good of earth system science. He will always be remembered for his work and his kindness to others.

An other player leaves the stage.
I remember his very complete and understandable lectures with hand drawn diagrams on the clear plastic rollup on a overhead projector, also listening to him explaining ozone depletion on a shortwave VOA presentation when I was up country Peru. The last time I saw him was some years ago in Caffe Sole in South Boulder.
