Daniel Earl Barberi, Sr.

August 9, 1926 – March 14, 2026

Dan was born August 9, 1926 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola to Daniel S. and Bernice R. Barberi. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, JoAnn Coberly Barberi. He is survived by his son Daniel, Jr. and his daughter Meri Beth Marks. He also leaves behind his grandson William Colello (Pam), his granddaughters Nichole (Bobby) Colony, Brittany (Justin) Boyd-Louhier and his great grandchildren Kaleb, Reid, Bailey, Danica, and Anniston. His also survived by his sister Margaret (Mallie) Tucker and niece Lee Tucker.

Dan was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army AirCorp. He retired from St. Regis/Champion Int'l. Paper Co. after 37 years as a Regional Manager of Safety & Environmental Health and spent the next five years as president of Alpha Safety Consultants before retiring to the golf course. In his employment he was responsible for identifying and recommending corrective actions for all safety, health, & loss prevention hazards within his company and client operations. Although assigned to the thirteen south eastern states, because of his extensive safety knowledge and expertise he was frequently assigned duties in Canada and through the United States.

Dan's knowledge and expertise in his field was acquired while attending the University of Southern Mississippi and specialized training at Auburn University, the University of Washington, Georgia School of Technology, Vanderbilt University, Mississippi State Fire Academy, Factory Mutual Engineering, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and other facilities that provided the specialized training needed for the expertise required to fulfill his obligations to his employer and his clients.

Dan was a Board Certified Safety Professional, Professional Member, emeritus of American Society of Safety Engineers, Certified Expert Witness, Certified First Aid, CPR, and Audiology Technician. He also held professional memberships in and served on various boards of directors such as the National Safety Council, American Association of Industrial Hygienists, National Fire Protection Association, and Southern Pulp and Paper Safety Association. His professional achievements include producing and implementing a 40 hour management safety training program for industrial managers that is used by companies throughout the United States. Dan is included in the 18th Edition (1982-83) Marquis Who's Who in the south and southeast, was Industrial Management Association's Man of the Year (1986-87), American Society of Safety Engineers' Man of the Year (1984-85), President of Alpha Safety Consultants Inc. President of Lakeview Estates Home Owners Association, President to Lakeview Estates Men's Golf Association, and President of the Pensacola chapter of American Society of Safety Engineers.

Dan was a passionate and dedicated golfer who was committed to its ethics and rules as he played the game from his beloved Gulf Coast to the home of gold in Scotland as he traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, & elsewhere with his wife. Relative significant accomplishments included four holes in one, and four times shooting his age.

Dan was a dedicated member of the Jaycees, winning key state awards for charitable committee efforts, the American Red Cross, Advisor to the Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement, United Way fund raiser chairman, active member of the Y.M.C.A., member of Foley United Methodist Church, Questors Sunday school class.

He will be buried with his wife's remains at Barrancas National Cemetery.
