Daniel C. Atwood
Graveside services for Daniel Clarence Atwood, 79, of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2025, at East Hill Cemetery in Roff.
Daniel C. Atwood was born August 6, 1946, at Sulphur, OK to Tom Brydia and Geneva Brandon Atwood. He left this life on August 19, 2025, from the sunroom which he built and spent so many hours in.
Dan graduated from Byng High School in 1964, and continued his education at ECU as a "Pike" graduating in 1968, with a degree in psychology. Following graduation from ECU he joined the Air Force and served his country proudly.
Dan had many interests and always found something new he wanted to learn about. Whether it was carpentry, woodworking, auctioneering, buying cheap and selling high, investments, renewable energy, beekeeping, gardening, the bible, or other things too numerous to mention. You can bet he has at least five books he has read on the things that piqued his interests. Unsuccessful ventures never hindered him from moving forward to new and more exciting quests.
He enjoyed talking about his family history and ancestry and his life as a boy growing up in Ada, visiting grandparents in Hickory every weekend, sneaking out of Grandma Bessie's house and getting caught or telling "what was there when I was growing up" as he watched places being torn down and new places being built as he became an adult. He enjoyed utilizing his Master's degree in Psychology to work for many years with people with developmental delays. He was strong in his faith and had extensive knowledge of the bible from a very young age until his death.
Dan was quick to say to his children when they complained about anything "I've had worse than that on my eyeball" or "It'll sure feel better when it stops hurting."
Dan looked forward to summer vacations with his kids and grandkids and had such good memories of times spent together at National and State Parks. It was in his children and grandchildren that his life was complete. His heart was full when he received text, calls or visits from them. He enjoyed advising and instructing them when they had "how to questions" on their projects or endeavors often interjecting his ways of doing it the right way. Their questions always sparked more interests and an excuse to watch more YouTube, read more books and watch instructional videos.
The highlight of his life in the last years as his health declined was getting up very early every morning and checking for texts or emails to see if his grandchildren were doing new things from their last messages. He laughed every time Lily ran in the front door and went straight for the ice cream and would smile when she would bring him his diet dr. pepper. It made his day when Frances always had "a great day at school." He looked forward to watching Violet in dance competitions on video streams and loved Brendan taking his old pickup and fixing all of its issues, driving it everywhere he went. He talked about the beautiful Hanna with red hair always smiling. He liked hearing about Thatcher's adventures most recently in Montana and couldn't wait until Paisleigh posted on her blog as she traveled to many different countries. He enjoyed great memories of conversations with Madeline while sitting on front porches during family vacations. When Aidan arrived as his first grandson, he was so happy and his greatest fan when he visited. He was such a proud Dad and Grandpa/Papa.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Peggy Dean Atwood; daughters, Dana Atwood-Blaine and husband Aaron of Waterloo, Iowa, and Misty Boyd and husband B.J. of
Ada, OK, sons, Dustin Atwood and wife Kim of West Brookfield, Mass and Christopher Atwood and wife Cassandra of
Ada, OK; grandchildren, Aidan Atwood-Blaine, Paisleigh Grace Atwood, Madeline Nemeroff, Thatcher Atwood, Hanna Nemeroff, Violet Atwood, Brendan Boyd, Frances Atwood, and Lillian Atwood; and nephew, Eric Atwood and wife Kassandra, Knoxville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, Tom and Geneva Atwood; and brother, Randy Atwood.
He enjoyed his daily phone talks with good friend Bob and frequent visits from cousins Garry and Kathy.
