Daniel A. Bieger, (82), of Hereford, Arizona, passed away peacefully in his home on January 25, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Dan was born to Charles and Eileen Bieger, on December 30, 1941, in St Louis, Missouri. He was an avid reader and talented writer who had a passion for service to his nation. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 18, served 20 years, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After retirement from the Army, he continued working for two companies before fully retiring to enjoy reading, writing, golfing, and spending time with his wife and his family to include six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Dan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shelley, and their two children, Mark (Amy) Bieger and their three sons Addison (Tessa), Joshua (Carolyn) and Owen, and Patrick (Coreen – Deceased) McGovern and his children, Alex (Brendan), Danny, and Kevin. He is also survived by his sisters Peggy Cea and Betty Jordan. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eileen Bieger, his brothers Bob and Tom Bieger and his sisters, Charlene Smith and Barbara Henningsen.
Dan was very proud of his military service and loved his country. He spent countless hours reading, researching, and reflecting on history, science, and the human mind. His passion for writing led to publishing several books. In addition to his love of literature, Dan was a sports enthusiast and avid fan. He taught his son how to play all sports, but especially basketball and golf. More importantly, he taught his son the importance of service by his example. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren and gathering around the kitchen table for a long game of strategy or chess. Most of all, he loved his wife Shelley and their dog Buddy, and the home they had built together in southern Arizona. Dan was loved and will be truly missed.
Burial, with military honors, will take place on Monday, April 29 at 9:00 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located at 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix AZ.
