Daniel T. Buckner, of Midvale, Utah, passed away peacefully from natural causes on October 25, 2025, in Eagle Mountain, Utah.
Dan was born on November 16, 1938, the son of Julian Thomas Peoples and Katherine Lucille McClellan. Following his parents' divorce, he was lovingly raised by his mother Katherine and stepfather Clyde Merrill Buckner, who together provided him with a strong foundation of love, faith, and integrity.
Dan grew up in Pleasant Grove, Utah, where he developed a deep appreciation for sports, namely football, basketball and baseball. During his high school years Dan excelled in all three sports. After graduating from Pleasant Grove High School, he went on to BYU on a full ride scholarship for football. Throughout his life, Dan was known for his enjoyment of the outdoors and fishing, a strong work ethic, kindness, a clever sense of humor, but most importantly his service and devotion to his Savior and Father in Heaven.
He married his high school sweetheart Sonja Herring on February 1st, 1958, and together they built a loving home filled with laughter, faith, and devotion. They were blessed with six children: Gary, Barbara, Cathy, James, John and Sherrie who brought immense joy to his life. Dan enjoyed 24 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
After the passing of his dear Sonja, Dan married Patricia Neuteboom on March 10th, 2007. He gained another beautiful daughter Kari and granddaughter. Together they had many years of adventure and love in their marriage.
Dan throughout his teenage years was no stranger to hard work, working in the farms and orchards of Pleasant Grove. He later provided for his family throughout the years of his life as a financial and insurance professional. He once worked as an award winning Milk Man, and at one time even owned his own gas station.
A man of faith and service, Dan was an active member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who served in many capacities. Rooted in his testimony of the Savior, Dan discovered his deepest joy in selfless service and in lifting and blessing those around him. He was always ready to lend a hand, share a story, or offer a word of encouragement. "If you wanted to know what time it was, he would tell you how to build a watch." Those who knew him will remember his gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and the way he made everyone feel like family.
Dan is survived by his wife, Patricia, his brother, Charles, and his six children. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Sonja, along with one grandchild and one great-grandchild who welcome him home with open arms.
Dan will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love he gave, the lessons he taught, the jokes he told, and the legacy he leaves behind in the hearts of all who knew him.
Patty would like to thank Denny and Sharen Jorgenson, Mike and Kathy Banks, Dr. Nick Duncan, and to the many friends and family who supported her during this time.
