Dan Tuure, 80, of South Hero, Vermont, passed away on October 23, 2023 at the UVM Medical Center. Born on September 3, 1943 in Burlington, Vermont, he was the 10th of 11 children.
Dan attended Essex Junction High School and soon after began working at Carpenter Supply Company in Colchester. On May 29, 1965, Dan married the love of his life, Mary Irish. They had three children - Kim, Stacy, and Josh. Dan was a wonderful father who spent a lot of time with his kids boating, hunting, fishing, playing cribbage, and of course, hauling firewood.
In 1976, Dan built his own log home from a kit which arrived on a flatbed truck. This was their home for the next 45 years. He started his own company, North Country Fire Protection, and worked there until he retired.
After retirement, Dan and Mary were able to travel the country and go on several cruises before buying an RV and spending the winters in Punta Gorda, Florida. Dan loved the warm weather and the sunshine.
Dan, Mary, and extended family and friends enjoyed many beautiful summer days at their camp in South Hero, Vermont. There were cruises on ‘Dan’s Dream’ and many games of 31 and dominoes. This was by far his favorite place: sitting on the porch, sipping a beer and watching the boats go by.
Dan is survived by his wife Mary Irish Tuure, daughters Kim Tuure Faris of Essex Junction Vermont, and Stacy Tuure Gleason (Greg) of St. Leonard Maryland, and son Joshua Daniel Tuure (Jess) of Essex Junction Vermont, along with six grandchildren - Daniel and Matthew Faris, Connor and Cameron Gleason, James Baker, and Joseph Baker-Tuure. He is also survived by brother John Tuure of Augusta, Georgia, and sisters Ruth Severson of Homosassa, Florida and Cathe Giroux of
Colchester, Vermont. He was predeceased by his parents Julius and Mary (Cassidy) Tuure, and siblings Ann Mongeon, Helen Fox, Rita Barber, Donald Tuure, Phillip Tuure, Alan Tuure, and Richard Tuure.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on October 26th, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Essex Junction beginning at 11:00am followed by a gathering at the parish hall.
