Loomis Family Funeral Home - ApopkaDaniel Ray Denney, age 70, passed away on January 12, 2026. Daniel was born January 11, 1956 in Niagara Falls, New York, and later moved to Central Florida, where he spent most of his life. He grew up in Zephyrhills during his teenage years and made his home in Apopka, a community he held close to his heart. Daniel shared 30 years of marriage with his former wife, PJ Denney, with whom he raised their beautiful family with.
His passion for Walt Disney World started opening day 1971, where he played the drums down Main Street, USA and not soon after that in 1983, Daniel dedicated 30 years of his life to serving others as a firefighter at Reedy Creek Fire Department. A role that reflected his deep sense of duty, courage, and compassion. He was a man who truly knew no stranger—welcoming everyone with humor, warmth, & beautiful conversation. Outside of his service, Dan found joy in music, especially playing the drums, and could never pass up the chance to serenade a crowd with his piano skills. He also loved a good “set it and forget it” BBQ rib dinner on Sunday nights, and an all you can eat seafood buffet on Saturday nights.
Daniel is survived by his beloved daughter, Shelbie Dickinson, and her husband, Devin Dickinson; his cherished grandchildren, Dutton Scott and Hallie June; his brother, Chuck Denney; his sister, Laura Pullen, and her wife, Deb Pullen; his nieces, Andrea Schechinger and her husband, Scott Schechinger, and Lauren Pepin and her husband, Tom Pepin; and his nephews, Eric Denney and his wife, Sarah Denney, and Bryan Denney and his wife, Jessica Denney. & many loving great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Denney and Joan Denney.
Above all, Dan was a loving father, brother, uncle, husband, & grandfather whose presence filled a room and whose kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Dan will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his witty humor, his love of music, and the unwavering love he had for his friends & family.
