Daniel passed away suddenly on, January 25, 2026, his 64th birthday. He is survived by his siblings, Betsie, Nancy, and Patrick (Mirna). He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy (Egan) in 2014 and Patrick in 2022.
Dan graduated from Forrestdale School in Rumson, Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, and Loyola College (now University) in Baltimore. He also received a Master's Degree in Counseling Services from Rider University. He worked in the field of career counseling at various institutions, including Hermans Sporting Goods, Toys 'R' Us, Magellan Health, Schering-Plough, and Northrup Grumman. Most recently, he was working in the same field at the Community College of Baltimore County and as a consultant for Right Management.
While Dan was born in Elizabeth and spent his early years in South Amboy, he grew up in Rumson. He was always into sports, and was introduced to soccer by his father, who was from Ireland. It became his sport of choice, even into his fifties. He played soccer at CBA, Brookdale Community College, and Loyola. He also coached soccer as an adult. He held the positions of assistant coach, director of coaching, and head coach of the Catonsville (MD) Cobras from the mid-90's until 2006.
Daniel's roots are in Ireland. His father was born in Maghery, County Donegal, where his parents built a vacation home in 1987. His mother's family hailed from County Roscommon. The family traveled often to their overseas home to visit friends and family. One of Dan's favorite pastimes was heading to the track, whether in
Laurel, MD, Monmouth Race Track, or his annual trek to Saratoga.
His other great passion was working as a volunteer at BARCS (Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter). He had a special affection for the senior dogs, who were harder to place. Even after they were placed with families, he would stay in touch, doing everything he could so that they would not have to surrender the pet back to the shelter. When he had his own health struggles and had to foster his own two sweet cats for a time, BARCS stepped in so he could focus on getting well. The experience stayed with him, and made him even more passionate about placing pets with families.
In addition to his siblings, Daniel is survived by numerous maternal and paternal aunts, uncles and cousins. He also was very close with his stepsons' mother, Angelique Devost, and her children: Brendan (Jenelle) Wilson and their sons James & Roman, and Andy (Dailyn) Wilson and their children, Damian & Judi.
Family and friends may visit on Monday, February 9th, from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue,
Red Bank, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 10th, at 10:30 am at the funeral home, followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in
