Daniel D. Diehl 79, of Montandon passed away on May 11, 2025 at his home with his wife, family, and friends at his side. Born in Sunbury on August 8, 1945 he was the son of the late William and Iola (Campbell) Diehl. He was married on November 21, 1998 to the former Leisa K. Kline who survives, and they celebrated 26 years of marriage.
Daniel was a 1965 graduate of Sunbury High School. He was drafted into the Army in 1967, was injured in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1969. He was awarded the National Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, and a Purple Heart. He was a 39-year member of American Legion Post 841. In his younger years he enjoyed playing ice hockey, softball, and bowling. He liked to help with Boy Scout Troop 522 in Montandon. Daniel worked at the CSIU for 34 years and also worked for Dock View Dairy.
Along with his wife he is survived by a daughter, Shannon Marie and fiancé Brian Derr of Milton; a son, Carl Warren and wife, Britany of Milton; five grandchildren, Hannah (Sean) Kancevicius, Nathaniel Hagenbuch, Serenity Sheesley, Hailey Sheesley, and Allison Sheesley; three brothers, Walter Diehl, Merrill Diehl, and Ken (Deb) Diehl; a sister, Margaret Moore; mother in law, Edna Kline; two brothers in law, Robert Kline, Jr. and Bob Reynolds; five sisters in law, Sharon Diehl, Chris Diehl, Peggy Diehl, Penny (Todd) Graybill, and Kathy (Ernie) Balatincz.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Diehl, Dale Diehl, and Clark Diehl; two sisters, Anna Hassinger, and Liz Reynolds; two brothers in law, Marlin Moore, and Robert Hassinger; and father in law, Robert Kline, Sr.
Following his wishes, a celebration of life will be held on August 9, 2025 from 1pm-4 p.m. at his home.
In honor of his love for children, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
