Daniel A. Doohan of Yonkers, New York passed away on August 17th, 2021. He was 74 years young. Born in Drumnatinney, Falcarragh, Co. Donegal Ireland to Denis and Bridget Doohan. Danny was one of fourteen children.
Danny was a hardworking self-made entrepreneur. He was the proud owner of multiple Bars and Restaurant over the years. Rye River Inn, Celtic House, Roaring 20’s, Glenowen, Fiona’s on Bainbridge, Fiona’s on Katonah, Fiona’s on 1st Ave, Ned Devine’s Saloon, Gossip Bar and Restaurant. Most recently, O’Donoghue’s Times Square, Genesis Bar and Restaurant and Crompton Ale House.
It was at the Blarney Stone on 53rd Street, Manhattan, NY while working as a bartender where he met the love of his life Sheila. In 1971, Danny and Sheila married at St. Johns Church, Bronx NY, and were blessed with two wonderful daughters: Fiona and Danielle.
Danny was a kind and generous man who always gave selflessly to others and the community. He never forgot where he came from and those that helped him throughout his life. He lived a simple life and greeted everyone with his smile and a firm handshake. And of course, he always loved a good argument. Danny loved his family and friends, his loving nieces and nephews, and all of his family and friends at home in Drumnatinney and Letterkenny. He loved Sundays at Gaelic Park, the GAA, and he loved to support his home club Cloughaneely Gaelic football team. Danny was a great member and supporter of the Donegal Association of New York. Danny enjoyed listening to Irish music, watching his beloved GAA games, reading, helping others, chatting/arguing with friends, spending time with family and of course his beloved dog Princess.
Danny will be remembered as caring, generous, hardworking, loving and family oriented.
Danny is survived by his wife of 50 years; Sheila, his daughters Fiona (Robert) Sanzo and Danielle (John) Wolf. He will be missed by his beloved grandchildren, Hailey, Ciara, Robert and Olivia. He will be deeply missed by his sister Kathleen (Sean) O’Brien and brothers; Packie (Veronica) Eddie (Mary), Josie (Teresa), Tony (Bridie) and Christy Doohan. Danny will be missed by everyone who knew him. Danny is pre-deceased by his parents; Denis and Bridget Doohan, his sisters; Mary Cannon, Margaret Miller, and Bridie Boyle, his brothers; Seamus, Brian, Alfie, and John Doohan.
A Celebration of Danny’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York on Sunday August 22nd from 2-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Barnabas R.C Church located at 409 E 241st St, Bronx, NY, on Monday August 23rd at 10:45 am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery located at 10 W Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, NY.
