Daniel Duprey, 96, of Pomfret Center, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 3, 2024, in Villa Maria Convalescent Home. He was the loving husband of the late Pauline (Ducat) Duprey. She was "his Pauline", and the love of his life for 65 years. Born in Norwich, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Henry and Lola (Kopecki) Duprey.
Mr. Duprey worked at Plastic Film/Pervel from 1949 to 1965 where he formed lifelong friends.
Mr. Duprey worked for the postal service first as a carrier in Sterling from 1965 to 1982, then as the Postmaster for Oneco, until his retirement in 1990. His stories of delivering the mail in all types of weather, included making sure the baby chicks got safely to their destination! In his later years, Daniel enjoyed driving his route with his son Gary to reminisce about those days.
Upon retirement, Dan and Pauline spent time in Florida, enjoying the warm weather, family and friends. His great joy was working tirelessly in his workshop. He crafted beautifully carved pieces, always for gifts. The THOUSANDS of toy cars and trucks that he made have made children smile all over the world, including Poland, Africa, Afghanistan and more. Local banks gave them out at the drive through and restaurants gave them to children to play with while waiting for their food.
Mr. Duprey also was a proud blood donor, having given 30 gallons in CT and over 30 gallons in Florida. He also sat for over 300 pheresis sessions.
Everyone who knew Daniel was enriched by him. He is Uncle Danny to the large Ducat family, and his Duprey family nieces and nephews. He loved them all immensely. His 96 years just wasn't long enough for all those who love him and will miss him.
Daniel is survived by two sons, Gary Duprey and his wife, Catherine, where he made his home for the last 10 years, and Dennis Duprey and his wife, the late Frankie Gale; grandchildren, Daniel Duprey and his wife, Kim, Jennifer Gerardi and her husband, Matthew, and Samantha Duprey and her partner Jason Martin; great grandchildren, Daniel Duprey Jr., Roman Gerardi, Abygail Gregg and her husband, Jerry Doan, and Jack Sullivan; great great granddaughter, Elsa Gregg; and brother, Richard Duprey and his wife, Pam.
