Daniel Dykstra Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Dykstra on September 12th, 2025 at the age of 85 as a result of an automobile accident. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Dave had a strong faith, love for his family and passion for the community he was a part of. He lived in the Middleville area most of his life with his loving wife Barb of 67 years. They raised 4 children together. Dave began dairy farming in 1970. He then started Dan Valley Excavating in 1985. Dave also served on the Barry County Road Commission for 24 years. He was also voted as a Home Town Hero. The entire community benefited from his generosity by the desire to help those around him. The examples of love, kindness and generosity are too many to mention. Dave's love and faithfulness to his Lord and Savior was the most important thing in his life, followed by the love for his family and friends. His employees became family to him.A stranger on the street was a friend to Dave. He impacted countless lives through his unwavering commitment of showing love and kindness to whomever he encountered. His family is at peace knowing that he is in the arms of his Savior and reunited with his loved ones who passed before him. Dave is survived by his wife, Barb Dykstra, son, Robert (Susan) Dykstra of Middleville, daughters, JoAnne Wright and Cheryl (Greg) Lydy, both of Middleville, 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, brother, Russell (Donna) Dykstra of Middleville, sisters, Laura Adams of California and Carolyn (Jim) Buer of Caledonia, sisters in law, Linda Dykstra of Middleville and Sheila Dykstra of Freeport, and several nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, son, Daniel D. Dykstra Jr., brothers, Henry Dykstra and Paul Dykstra, son in law, Jay Wright. Dave's family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Beeler-Gores Funeral Home where his funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Dan Beyer of Gun Lake Community Church will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the "Dan Dykstra Jr. Memorial Scholarship". We are saddened by the news of Dave's passing. Our heartfelt condolences to all of his family.
We were so blessed to know Dave. Ted is thankful that Dave gave him his first job on the farm back when he was a teenager. He learned to have a good work ethic and loved that they were treated like family. He has many fond memories of those days. We were blessed by Dave's generosity. He did the grading and site prep for our home as a wedding gift to us. We are so grateful for him and his family. May you be comforted in this difficult time as you look back over all of the memories and see how many lives he blessed.

You are the survivor now, left with a heart to heal and all the memories that remain. Those cherished memories will never be lost, for what you carry in your heart is yours to keep forever. You could fill a book with all the generous acts of Dave. A great man and he will be missed. Rest in peace Dave.

Phil said most of my thoughts as I sit here in western south dakota with tears in my eyes for the man that helped me through some tough times as a kid, like him and Barb did with so many kids !! As kids we always looked forward to our Sunday visits or any visit with the Dykstra's,I always looked up to Dave as a farmer and as the best dozer man there is !! Community was always tops for Dave as proven by they're tremendous support of the 4-H kids !! They were with us when we lost Linda, which meant so much like family and then supporting us on our move to nebraska. I will always cherish having Dave in my life !! RIP Dozer Dave

Dave was one of the kindest most generous man I ever knew. Our families farmed back and forth over the years- his dad Henry did several dozing jobs for us and his son Rob (along with his wife and extended family) are the best friends my wife and I could ask for !! Always there when we have needed a helping hand. When we lost our son Travis it was Dave who came to our home and sat with us and gave us the best advice on how to handle such a loss because he and Barb had been through the same tragedy when their son Dan was killed in a traffic accident also years before.. The Dykstra´s have always been there for our family and we ( and the Middleville community) have been truly blessed having Dave - Barb and the rest of Dykstra family call this town home!!
