Daniel E. "Danny" Edwards Sr., longtime Nocona resident, was born on December 7, 1950, in Fittstown, Oklahoma. He passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, in Henrietta, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of artistry and kindness.
Danny’s journey into the world of work began at a young age when he started working for Oliver and Dell Motley at their leather goods business when he was thirteen years old. This experience proved to be formative for Danny, as Dell taught him the intricate craft of hand-tooling artwork into leather. They were so close that Danny became a foster son to the Motleys. He remained close with the Motleys throughout their lives, continuing to work for them tooling leather, tending their garden, and doing any other work they needed, until they passed away.
Danny also built a friendship with Ben and Guy Hill and their families, cleaning the Dairy Queen for them for some thirty years.
An introvert, Danny was shy and quiet, and not many people got to know him deeply. Those who did, though, were lucky enough to see his deep love for his family and his incredible skill as an artist. He drew hundreds of scenes from things he found comical in everyday life. His family also knew how much he loved football, where he excelled in keeping scores and statistics, predicting winners with remarkable accuracy. He wasn't a gambler, but if a person had listened to his predictions, they would have won more than they lost!
Danny is survived by his wife, Martha (Salyer) Edwards; his son, Daniel Eugene Edwards Jr.; step-daughter, Franna Murphy; beloved niece Suzy Hightower and nephews Jimmy Lee Edwards and Coty Wayne Edwards (and wife Amy); five granddaughters and two grandsons; ten great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, and one great great granddaughter, all of whom will hold his memory close to their hearts.
Danny is preceded in death by his parents, Alvis Elvin Edwards and Eva Lee (Breland) Edwards, as well as his daughter, Brenda Edwards. He also mourned the loss of his four sisters—Mary Edwards, Delois Hightower, Jewel Stinson (and her son Jimmy), and Shirley Hobbs (and her sons Frank and Gordon)—and two brothers, Wayne Edwards and Jimmy Dale Edwards (and Jimmy's wife, Patsy); and Danny's two great-granddaughters.
Danny's gentle spirit and artistic talent touched many lives throughout his years. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Danny's family has entrusted his care to Scott-Morris Funeral Home. The family will have a private service in Danny's memory.
