Retired Staff Sergeant, Daniel Joseph Erwin, age 84 of Kenton, passed away on August 5, 2025, at Logan Acres, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 11, 1940, to Daniel W. and Eileen (Adkins) Erwin in Kenton, Ohio.

Dan had fond memories of growing up in Kenton. He was a 1959 graduate of Kenton High School. After high school, Dan joined the United States Air Force and served his country for five years. After the Air Force, Dan reenlisted in the United States Army. Home on leave, he met the love of his life, Jo Ann (Born) Erwin, whom he was happily married to for fifty-five years. They traveled the world together.

They were blessed with three children: Paul (Debbie) Erwin of Cadiz, OH, Eric (Jada) Erwin of Kenton, OH, and Heather Erwin of Kenton, OH. Dan was blessed to have four grandchildren: Kelsey (Jensen) Holly, Kylie (Elijah) Manns, Gregory and John Erwin; along with his great grandson, Jonah Holly, who has brightened his life for the last 5 months.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann; both of his parents; and his sister, Kay Stauffer.

Dan enjoyed being the grandpa taxi for his granddaughters and adopted grandchildren. Dan was an avid fan of the Notre Dame's Fighting Irish football team and the Detroit Lions. Dan enjoyed watching Midsommer Mysteries, Judge Judy, listening to music from the 40's, and torturing his children with the New Christy Minstrels. Dan loved his dogs and grand-dogs, and he loved spending time with his family.

Arrangements for the Erwin family are in the care of SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Kenton. There will be no visitation. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Warriors for Dogs of Hardin County or Love INC of Hardin County. Condolences may be expressed online at stoutcrates.com.
