It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Daniel T. Flaherty Jr., age 84, on June 23, 2025. Dan was born to Leona C. Flaherty and Daniel T. Flaherty Sr. He spent his final days at home, surrounded by friends and family and the warmth of their love, receiving compassionate hospice care.
Dan's life was marked by a steadfast commitment to service, learning, and kindness. He began his academic journey at Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) in the early 1960s, later earning his law degree from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law (1963–1965). His distinguished career began as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, followed by roles as Legal Counsel for Chemical Leaman Tank Lines, Inc. and the Milk Marketing Board. For over 40 years, Dan served as an Administrative Law Judge at the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, where his wisdom and fairness touched countless lives.
Dan's legacy lives on in his loving family: his devoted wife, Marlana E. Flaherty; his sons, Brian T. Flaherty, David E. Herrold Jr., and Nathan E. Herrold; his cherished sister, Anne Hart; his niece, Kimberly Vu; his great-nephew, Quoc A. Vu; and his great-nieces, Jessica Vu and Leoné Vu.
A man of boundless curiosity, Dan was a voracious reader with an ever-changing stack of novels, biographies, and history books on his nightstand. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and delighted in learning about any subject that piqued his interest. His love for animals was evident throughout his life-he was always surrounded by dogs, cats, birds, and, in later years, horses. Dan's kindness and generosity extended to all creatures, great and small.
Dan was also a master of trivia, always ready to share a fascinating fact or lend a helping hand. He found joy in travel and adventure, exploring new places with those he loved. His warmth, humor, and gentle wisdom enriched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Dan's family invites friends and loved ones to honor his memory by supporting a cause close to his heart. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Far Point Animal Rescue, 1105 Red Hill Rd, Port Trevorton, PA.
Dan's life was a testament to love, curiosity, and compassion. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
