Henry A. Truslow (Hank) of Northumberland went to meet his Lord on July 10 at Nottingham Village. Hank was diagnosed with Parkinson's over 6 years ago and succumbed to the late stages of the illness peacefully in his sleep.
Born January 25,1939 in Portland, Maine. He was the son of the late Henry Adams Truslow, Jr. and Cora (Whitin) Truslow of Saco, Maine. Hank was a 1957 graduate of The Kent School, Kent, Connecticut where he served as Senior Prefect. He went on to a year in England as a rugby playing exchange student in the English-Speaking Union at Stowe School, Buckingham. He returned to Yale University, Class of 1962 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree. Henry also received a Doctorate of Textiles Degree from Philadelphia University.
In 1962 Hank began his career in the textile industry joining Deering Milliken as a salesman in New York. In 18 years with Milliken, Hank became the General Manager of two divisions and was ever grateful for the leadership of Roger Milliken. He continued his textile career serving as President of Woodside Mills until coming to Sunbury Textile Mills in 1982 where he worked until retirement as Chairman and CEO. During this time, Hank served on the Board of Woolrich, Inc. and served as its chairman.
Hank served on the boards of many organizations and believed that one had an obligation to serve the community in some way. On a national level, Hank was on the boards of both the Northern Textile Association and the American Textile Manufacturers Institute. He chaired both. He also served on the boards of Susquehanna University and Philadelphia University. Locally, Hank served on the boards of Sunbury Community Hospital, Evangelical Community Hospital, Northern Central Bank, Sunbury YMCA, Trustee Faith United Methodist Church and numerous committees.
During the Reagan Administration, Hank was appointed to the Export Committee of the US Commerce Department which began many years of work in Washington trying to bring fairness to the US international trade sector. He liked to sum it up by saying "politicians come and go, but the problems always seem to remain!" One of his fondest memories was being in the room when Four President's signed NAFTA.
Hank enjoyed the game of golf and was a member of numerous golf clubs. Among his prized possessions are the flags from his two holes in one at Pine Valley and the card from his first round of golf at Augusta. Hank served on the board of the Pennsylvania Golf Association for 15 years. He also was on the Pennsylvania Lesley Cup team that competed each year with teams from Quebec, Massachusetts and New York.
Hank was also passionate about history, specifically The Civil War. His mother shared stories of his grandfather, a Colonel, hiding from the opposition. He turned this interest into a passion for collecting Civil War era guns and swords. He was fortunate to have re united a pair of Colt presentation pistols and loved sharing that story, among others, with his fellow members of the American Society of Arms Collectors. He treasured his time with this group.
Hank was a prostate cancer survivor who was a proud member of Arnie's Army. He advocated that every man know his PSA level and wasn't shy about asking them directly what theirs was.
Hank was preceded in death by innumerable family and friends most notably his sister Nancy Whitin Truslow Lundgren and his brother-in-law Charles Dunn McKee.
He is survived by his loving wife, LaVina Brock Truslow; his siblings Nina Carter Truslow McKee, Barbara Auchincloss Truslow Kidder (Jack Tyler Kidder III), Peter Kent Truslow (Kathy Morris), his brother in law Richard John Lundgren; his children with first wife Gretchen Smith Truslow (deceased): Henry Adams Truslow IV (Janet Templeton), Martha Baldwin Truslow Lanahan, Benjamin Merrill Truslow (Laura Romano); his step sons who he loved as his own: Frank Ed Brock, Ronald Erick Brock(Jennifer Gresh); his grandchildren: Catherine Brevard Truslow, Henry Adams Truslow V, Kevin Patrick Lanahan (Lindsay Michelle), Merrill Elizabeth Lanahan, Peyton Cooper Truslow (Erin Saylor), Corinne Elizabeth Brock, Emily Noel Brock, Alec Thomas-Adams Brock; and two great grandchildren: Keane Walker Lanahan, Ruby Quinn Lanahan and many beloved nieces and nephews.
