Daniel George Foil, a dedicated servant of his community and a man of unwavering faith, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025. He was a devoted family man, a hard-working professional, and a kind soul who served people from all walks of life with integrity, compassion, and his trademark quick wit.
Born in 1952 and raised in Franklinton, Louisiana, Dan grew up with a deep sense of duty and purpose. He was a proud alumnus of Franklinton High School and Louisiana State University. After earning his Juris Doctor from LSU Law Center in 1988, he embarked on a life of public service, holding several esteemed positions throughout his career. He was very proud of his time as a Police Academy Instructor in Slidell, where he mentored countless fellow law enforcement professionals. As a long-time felony investigator and Chief Criminal Deputy at the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, he brought diligence and fairness to his work, always seeking justice for those in need. Since 2009, he served as Commissioner of the 22nd Judicial Court and, since 2021, as Court Magistrate of Franklinton. In these roles, he worked tirelessly in the service of his community by upholding the law with wisdom and grace.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dan Foil was a man of strong faith, finding his purpose in serving God and his fellow man. His quick wit and sharp sense of humor were cherished by all who knew him, brightening even the toughest of days. He was a loyal fan of the LSU Tigers, rarely missing a game and proudly cheering them on at every opportunity.
Above all, Dan loved his family deeply. His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy and he poured his heart into loving and supporting them in every way. Whether offering guidance, lending a helping hand, or simply sharing a warm smile, he lived by the principle of treating all people with respect and compassion.
He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his enduring love, faith, humor, and service.
He is survived by his loving children, Jessica Lormand (Casey), Justin Foil (Brittany), Cory "Alex" Foil (Hannah), and Nina Foil (Savyto) and his grandchildren, Emily, Bastian, Wyatt, Laven, Luca, Marleigh, Waylon, and Cora. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Keith Foil, extended family members, and countless lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lettie Taylor Foil and Daniel Foil, Jr., and his sister, Sheilah Foil.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dan may be made to First Baptist Church of Covington at https://fbccov.org/give/.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington LA 70433 on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Visitation hours begin at 9:00 AM with service beginning at 11:00 AM.
Dan's legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. His life was a testament to the power of faith, hard work, love for others, and a well-timed joke.
