Daniel Jacob Garland of Howell, MI was 37 years old when he passed away unexpectedly at his home in Howell, MI on August 21, 2023, just three days shy of his 38th birthday. Our hearts are broken but we are comforted to know that he is now in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior.
Daniel was born August 24, 1985 in Rochester, MI to his father Jack (Wendee) Garland and his mother Lori (Niemela) Garland. He was a lifelong resident of Howell. After graduating from Howell High School in 2003, he earned his Associate's degree in management information systems from Lansing Community College and went on to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Cleary University. He worked for Ideal Contracting, LLC since November 2015.
Daniel loved taking his family to indoor waterparks and swimming together in their back yard. He and Camryn would often color and draw pictures together and cuddle on the couch while watching movies. He and Chelsea would spend much of their time together talking, laughing, and goofing around. He was an avid golfer and a gifted musical talent, having taught himself how to play guitar and drums. He had a passion for music, loved fishing, and truly excelled at anything he did. More importantly, he was a loving, caring father and husband to his girls at home and was the best son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend we could ask for whose ability to make you laugh and desire to make people happy was as unparalleled as it was remarkable. He brought out the best in those around him and loved putting others first. His legacy as a patient, kind, gentle soul whose love for others, calm demeanor, and selflessness this world has never known, will live on forever.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Jack and Olga Garland, maternal grandfather Elmer Niemela, and Uncle Paul Mittelstaedt.
He is survived by many family and friends who loved him dearly, including his wife and love of his life Chelsea, who is expecting their second daughter in December, daughter Camryn Renee, brother Jason (Stephanie) Garland and their three children Nolan, Isabelle and Collin of Wisconsin, brother Dr. Jacob Lupini of Southgate, mother-in-law Lisa Page of Howell and the Philippines, father-in-law Gene Bowhall of Howell, brother-in-law Travis (Maribel) Page of the Philippines, sister-in-law Jade Bowhall of East Lansing, brothers-in-law Hunter Compton of South Carolina and Tanner Compton of Fenton, step- brother Cody of Livonia and step-sister Nicole of Ubly, step-father Dr. Gary (Alex) Lupini of Howell, grandmother Ardythe Niemela of Lansing, uncles Michael (Patricia) Niemela and Christopher Niemela of Haslett, and Mike (Sophia) Garland of South Carolina, aunts Julie Niemela of Grand Rapids, Kathy (Mark) Drier of North Carolina, Jacqueline Pavlich of Harbor Springs, and Kelly Mittelstaedt of Sterling Heights, and cousins Stacey (Matthew) Schlieger, Jeff Drier and Tony (Sarah) Drier, Stephen Pavlich, Grant, Noah and Olivia Garland, Chris Mittelstaedt and Jenny (Nicholls) Melancon.
We'd like to especially thank Tanner and best friends Frank Ervin and Joshua Duey for all the compassion and support they have shown. They truly have been our steady rocks as we grieve, and have brought hope, strength, and encouragement which is a tremendous help during this difficult time.
A visitation ceremony will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located at 425 E. Washington St. in Howell, Thursday, August 31st from 9:30 am – 10:30 am, with mass and a celebration of life immediately following. Danny, you left us much too soon and there will be nothing that will fill the immense void in our hearts. Your short time on this earth has made a long-lasting impression on all those who had the privilege to know you. You will be fondly remembered always. May you rest easy now, at peace, until we meet again.

I am heartbroken to hear about the loss of Danny. I spent a lot of time with him and Frank Ervin over their middle school and high school years and was always very amused by them. Danny was always fun and would light up a room. He had a charisma about him that drew you to him. Prayers for his family during this difficult time. I pray you find peace and comfort.
I'm sure Chuck and Danny G are fishing away together
