Arlene Lucille (Bain) Hoover, a cherished mother, loving GG, devout Christian, and talented seamstress, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at the age of 95 in
Lansing, Michigan. Born on August 6, 1930, in Howell, Michigan to the late Thomas and Evelyn (Smith) Bain, Arlene's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and passion for her craft.
Arlene's journey began at Howell High School and then JW Sexton High School, where she earned her GED in 1968. Her commitment to education continued as she attended Lansing Community College. She took great pride in her role as a stay-at-home mom, raising her five children with love and devotion.
Her home was not only filled with the laughter of her children but also with the hum of her sewing machine, as Arlene was a passionate and meticulous seamstress. She created beautiful clothing for her children, crafted intricate vestments for priests, and lovingly made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren-a legacy of warmth and comfort that will be cherished for generations. Arlene's talents were further shared through her involvement in many quilting clubs, where she formed many friendships. Her hands were rarely still, as she found joy in every stitch and seam or out in her well kept floral gardens.
Arlene and her late husband Dale, enjoyed camping with their family and friends all around Michigan in various State Parks, playing Bridge and Euchre with friends and relatives, spending summers at their cottage on Crooked Lake, and wintering in Florida.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and Arlene was a devoted member of her parish, Holy Cross. She played an active role in the Our Lady of Fatima Circle, where she lived out her Christian values through service and fellowship. She then became a longtime member of St. Gerard Catholic Church.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale Hoover (1998), a son Mike Hoover (1967); siblings, Tom (Rose) Bain, Betty (Howard) Murphy, George Bain, Frances (Dick) Davis, two sons-in-law, Ken Redburn and Tom Cooley, and a sister-in-law Julia Bain.
She is survived by her children, Cathy (Jack) Phillips, Karen Smith, Patty Redburn, and Marilyn Hoover-Cooley; her eight grandchildren, Wendy (Derek) Johnson, Stacey (Micah) Malloy, Brent (Missy) Smith, Matthew (Miranda) Smith, Kim (Jay) Reed, Jamie (Beth) Redburn, Michelle (Justin) Armstrong, and Emily (Corey) McAdams, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, a sister Linda (Richter), a brother Ralph (Cindi) Bain, a sister-in-law Joyce Bain, along with many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
