Christine Marie Hanson, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at the age of 65 in DeWitt Township, MI. Born on August 26, 1959, Christine's life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to her family, her faith, and her community.

Christine's journey began as the cherished daughter of Jo Ann Slabonek and the late Robert Sokal, and she grew up nurtured by the love of her parents and the guiding presence of her late step-father, Richard Slabonek. Her education at Lansing Catholic Central High School, from which she graduated in 1977, laid the foundation for her to become a woman of great character and dedication.

Throughout her professional career, Christine's warmth and meticulous nature shone through. She served as a secretary in various capacities, leaving her mark at Lansing Community College, the Catholic Diocese of Lansing, the State of Michigan, the Secretary of State's Office, and Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Office. Her most recent role as Executive Secretary for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services was a culmination of her lifelong commitment to public service.

Christine's deep Catholic faith guided her in every aspect of her life. As a very active lifelong member of St. Therese Catholic Church, she resonated joy through her participation in the Bell Choir early on in her life and later in life, serving on numerous committees and participating in weekly bible studies at the church. Her dedication extended beyond the church walls as she contributed significantly to the Federated Polish Home, serving as Hall Manager for 6 years and as a member of the Board for several years.

Her service to the Polish National Alliance (PNA) was notable-Christine served as Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer of PNA Lodge 1360, Secretary on PNA Council 155, Lady commissioner for the National PNA Office, and was elected as a Delegate to two PNA National Conventions. Her pride in her Polish heritage was evident in all she did for the community.

A woman of many interests, Christine found joy in sewing, cooking, and loved traveling, especially going on pilgrimages and vacationing with her mom, sister, kids and grandkids. However, her favorite pastime was spending precious moments with her beloved grandchildren-Lindsey, Timothy, Natalie, Norianna, Naomi, Milena, Celeste, Christian, Ryan, Reese, Rosalena, and Celina. They, along with her devoted children, Michael (Emily) Hanson, Matthew (Tina) Hanson, and Catherine (Richard) Hanson, will forever cherish the memories of her loving and thoughtful spirit.

Christine's legacy is also lovingly remembered by her mother, Jo Ann Slabonek, her sister Julie Slabonek-Savage (Brad) Fahringer, and her special friend, Charlie Wuerthele. Her faithful companion, Toby the dog, will miss her presence dearly.

Visitation will be held at Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes Delta Chapel on Monday, August 18 from 2:00pm-5:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm with a Rosary being prayed at 7:00pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 19 at St. Therese Catholic Church at 11:00am. Interment will immediately follow the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lansing, MI. Pallbearers for Christine are John Garner, Brad Fahringer, Charlie Weurthele, Scott Horner, Mark Lehman, Richard Hanson.

Christine's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of love, devotion, and service. She lived her faith-filled life thoughtfully, touching the lives of all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to inspire those she left behind, as they walk forward carrying the light of her love in their hearts. Christine Marie Hanson's story does not end with her passing; it lives on in the countless lives she touched and the indelible mark she left on this world.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Therese Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
