In the early morning of July 31, 2022, Daniel L. Geist, 52, of Mishawaka passed away due to renal failure with his mother, Becky, Tim and Brad by his bedside. Dan was born in Mishawaka on July 10, 1970, to George W. and Mary (McNamara) Geist. Dan is a 1988 graduate of Marian High School and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1992.
Dan never watched a sporting event he didn't enjoy from football, college or pro, baseball and hockey games whether it be on TV or attending the game. He was a Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox, Arizona Cardinals, Notre Dame and Chicago Blackhawks fan. He was a 20 year member of two Fantasy Football Leagues. He was also an avid reader. Most of his work career he was an insurance adjuster. He started substitute teaching for the School City of Mishawaka and found a new career working with elementary children. He had planned to pursue a teaching license.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, George Geist. He is survived by his mother, Mary Geist; aunts, Patricia (Pete)Stiles and Aunt Beverly (Wolfgang) Bart; uncle, Robert (Kim) Geist; several cousins; and the Lou Crew, a group of friends of over 30 years who visited Dan during is last days. Also surviving are his Phoenix family who also came to visit and say good-bye. Dan or "Coach" or "Big Dan" as he was called, had many great friends. He wanted to stay but God had other plans.
Visitation will be 4 pm-7 pm on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, IN. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 pm, Thursday, August 4, 2022, at St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami St., South Bend, IN 46613. Daniel will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dan's memory to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Dr., South Bend, IN 46614.
