Daniel Gilbert

MILLBURY – Daniel J. Gilbert, 85, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Friday, April 7th in his home.

Daniel’s wife of 45 years, Carol B. (Dunn) Gilbert passed away in 2006.  He leaves two daughters, Marcia A. Gilbert and Kerrie L. Weaver and her husband, Peter all of Millbury; a son, Jeffrey M. Gilbert and his wife, Kim of Millbury; seven grandchildren, Scott Weaver and his wife Ana, Brian Weaver and his wife Carolina, Morgan Weaver, Abigail Gilbert, Jacquelyn Gilbert, Danielle Gilbert, and Lyla Gilbert; a great grandson Luca; his siblings Ronald Gilbert and Diann Dempsey; a sister-in-law Elizabeth Prus; along with many nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his son Daniel Joseph Gilbert, brothers Alvin and David Gilbert, and his father Daniel W. Gilbert.

He was born in Worcester and was a life-long resident of Millbury.  After finishing high school, he joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17.  He worked as a maintenance machinist in the printing industry for many years at Heffernan Press and later at Allen-Bailey Tag & Label before retiring in 1999.

He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, and was his grandchildren’s biggest fan.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family, cooking dinners on Sundays and especially going on trips to Vermont.  He was always there for his family and loved being a grandfather.

Family and friends are invited to remember Dan’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Saturday, April 15th from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 15th at 11:30 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 N. Main Street, Millbury.  Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, Millbury.
