Daniel Glommen Obituary

Visit the Clark Funeral Home and Chapel website to view the full obituary.

Daniel Stanley Glommen was born on February 13, 1941, in Wilmington, Ohio. As a son of an Air Force officer, Dan and his siblings lived in many areas, including Washington Courthouse, Ohio; Levittown, New York; and Frankfurt, Germany. At the age os 12, he and his family moved to San Antonio, Texas. Dan played football for the South San Antonia Bobcats and played the biggest bass drum in the state of Texas. In 1955, Dan and his family moved to Security, Colorado. He attended Fountain High School and then transferred to Widefield High School, where he was part of the first class to graduate from the school. He was a star athlete who played football, basketball, baseball, and ran track. It was during this time that he would meet his future bride, Jeannie Gillison, class of 61. After high school, Dan went to Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, to play football and basketball. After one year, Dan joined the Air Force and was sworn in by his father, Major Al Glommen. In 1962, Dan and Jeannie were married in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The next year, they were transferred to Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. Their first child, Gary Neil, was born. Dan worked for the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service as a radio disc jockey and had an evening show where he was called "Mister Midnight".

After serving 4 years in the AF, they settled in Security, CO., where their other children, Tracy Lynn and Julie, were born. Dan began working for the Retail Credit Bureau and finished his bachelor's degree in science from the University of Colorado. Dan coached youth basketball and football and was active in the bowling league.

In 1974, Dan was transferred to Kansas City, Missouri, to open a new retail credit bureau. In 1976, Dan moved his family to Georgia, where they would remain for the next thirty years. He earned his master's in library media from Georgia State. He was an avid golfer and runner. He participated in the Peachtree Road Race for many years. He was 60 years old in his last run. He was active at Ousley United Methodist, where he taught Sunday School for the "Pioneer Open Door" class, sang in the choir, was a member of the "Joyful Noise" barbershop quartet, served on numerous committees, and played for Ousley's softball and basketball league. He retired from Equifax after 30 years as Asst. VP of Human Resources.

Over the next ten years, Dan and Jeannie lived in Kissimmee, Florida, and Andover and Methuen, Massachusetts, as independent contractor of IBM. It was at this time that they became avid cruisers, taking at least two cruises a year for over 20 years.

In 1989, Dan and Jeannie returned to Georgia, living in Snellville, Winston, and Dallas. Dan lived for his six grandchildren! He attended baseball games, wrestling tournaments, football games, dance recitals, musicals, pageants, Girl Scout events, softball games, soccer games, rifle competitions, JROTC raider competitions, and every graduation from both high school and college. He served as PTA president for P.B. Ritch Elementary School. He ate lunch with the Groom children EVERY Friday from the time Brian was in Kindergarten until Heather graduated from middle school. Unfortunately, the kids cut him off in high school. He traveled weekly to Henry County to watch Daniel play sports and to Carrollton to see Cole participate in Football and Wrestling.
He has been a member of the United Methodist denomination and again served in many leadership roles wherever he worshiped. He was a bass singer in the choir for over 20 years under the direction of his daughter, Julie Groom. In 2022, Dan and Jeannie moved to Creekside Pines Senior Living in Dallas because of his diagnosis of IPF. However, he continued to remain active in his children's and grandchildren's lives. In 2024, Dan and Jeannie became GREAT grandparents, welcoming Henry Scott and, a year later, Kolton Wills.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation in honor of Dan on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Clark Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM in the Sam Clark Chapel, with Rev. Leslie Calchik, Pastor Steve Alred officiating. Brian Scott Groom, Cole Daniel Glommen, Daniel David O'Barr, and Heather Gail Groom will serve as pallbearers.

Clark Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the service of Daniel Stanley Glommen.
