Daniel J. Goding

Daniel J. "Dan" or "Bones" Goding, lifelong Aurora resident, died peacefully in his home on January 8, 2026. He was 72, two weeks shy of his 73rd birthday.
Dan began his career working at the family gas station, originally owned by his father, on Prairie Street in Aurora. He then transitioned into sales, working for 17 years for Texor Petroleum. It was in that job that he found his love of the gab, traveling all around the Chicago area, becoming an expert on every gas station and hot dog stand along the way.
Forever a lover of sports, Dan played hockey in high school before attending Mankato State University, where the hockey team was a passion leading to meeting many of his lifelong friends. As he aged, he turned to softball, and eventually to golf. As much as anything, he enjoyed watching children play sports, and proudly carried the legacy of his grandfather whose name still lives on at Bernard Field in Solfisburg Park in Aurora. When he wasn't swinging a golf club or watching golf on TV, Dan loved being in the kitchen and by a grill, and was thrilled to tell everyone about his award-winning chili.
Dan was preceded in death by Diane, his wife of 26 years, with whom he is happily reunited. He is survived by his three daughters, Sarah Turner (husband, Mark), Katie Burgess (husband, Jeff), and Julie Dietz (husband, Robert); his three siblings, Michael, Mary Wolodkiewicz (husband, Bill) and Susan Sullivan (late husband, Greg); and his five grandchildren, Olivia, Drew, Bernard, Grant, and Emma, all of whom will forever remember their beloved Grampy.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 3 PM to 8 PM at The Healy Chapel Sugar Grove, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove, IL 60554. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Aurora.
